Strange but true...heard it with my own to ears this morning on the Team990. No word on who the Habs would give up, but from what i understand it wouldn't have to be much cause Vlad intends on retiring after this season.
Thoughts? There also seems to be interest in Brendan Witt, but as Bob McKenzie suggested, that could possibly cost us Komisarek, which isn't going to happen.

Eww, why? Well i think its obvious that the Habs would like to add a defenceman, probably a LD. Would you rather give up a mid round pick for a rental type (ie. Malakhov, Richardson, Odelein), or give up something good (ie. Hainsey and a pick) for Witt? In this case i think its probably in our best interest to go with a rental...

I always liked Vladdy....
I'd take him back in a heartbeat. If we aren't expecting too much from him he could be a very pleasant acquisition, and provides quality depth - a guy who can take a bigger role if a crisis comes up; kinda like Perreault, too good for the role he's actually playing, but he can help fill in if Ribs or Sax goes down.
Vladdy could be a potential fill-in for a defenseman injury, whoever it may be. Malakhov could play both sides pretty well, and run a PP.
The question is always one of cost, of course. But if Sather just wants to save some bucks, I'd take him...

I always liked Vladdy.... I second that. Too bad he went skiing on his "injured" knee. Fans booed loudly. Do you think the Montreal home fans are ready to forgive and forget? Don't need any more booing.

If he can be had for cheap (mid-to-late rd pick) then I wouldn't mind picking him up. He wouldn't be asked to play too large of a role here. Similar to Brisebois, a more simplified role would probably improve his play. Rather than go for a Brendan Witt type who would cost too many major assets, I would rather Gainey go for a rental like Malakhov, or someone along those lines.

It's a risky one ! With Souray back in the line-up, who would you take out ? Bouillon ? He deserves to play... Quintal ? Ditto...
Of course, Vlad can play on either side, and he's still an excellent skater. Might be helpfull with Markov on PP.
Are they gnna boo him ? Does he want to come back in Montreal. That I doubt a lot !

Prediction: He will go to the Islanders because they need another D and he played there previously.

Well, the environment would be much different from when he was in Montreal last. That might be a factor I suppose.
I remember how he was ushered out of the city in humiliation. The ski hill thing was printed and the mob turned on him in a flash. Like so many of his peers, Malakhov was blamed for almost all of the city's woes.
I can't see how he would hurt the club. He'd be a welcome addition in my opinion. The club's defence corps would no doubt be deeper with him in the lineup.
I also think there would be one or two Northeast Division GM's that would gag on their coffees if Montreal got him. Just a humorous thought.
Cheers.

Let's put a stop this particular speculation. The Habs won't trade further with the Rangers this season. Period. They no longer have professional scouts at Ranger games but the Avs, Red Wings, Isles, and Devils do. Other players besides Malakhov being scouted are Matthew Barnaby, Martin Rucinsky, and Boris Mironov.
