www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/shownews.jsp?content=h091917ASergei Fedorov says in this interview that going through a break-up with Anna Kournikova at the time when Mr. Illitch gave him a propsal to stay with the Wings (Last Fall IIFC) led to him leaving the Wings. Basically he says the offer was fair, and had his head been in the right place at the time he would have signed the contract without negotiations. Now, many of us on here speculated, if not hoped that Fedorov was at least considering the Habs and vice versa. If Fedorov had signed here, how would you feel now that he is basically saying he didn't want to leave the Wings, and wished he was still there? I'm reading between the lines a bit here, but I can't imagine Ducks fans are going to react too positively towards this story. On the other hand I bet there's a lot of angry Wings fans hunting down Anna right now ;D

Meh....... he's being honest. If he had signed here and said that I wouldn't have batted an eye.
After all, Howie Morenz cried when he realized he couldn't get out of his professional hockey contract with the Habs. He thought he wasn't good enough (!) to play and figured he should develop a more enriching career instead.....

Bad time to speak, in my opinion. Anaheim's organization is really excited in having this guy, and he's saying that he would have preferred to stay with the Wings had it not been for his personal issues.
It's true, he is being honest, and there's nothing wrong with that; but I think it's not a very good time to be bringing this up. Some of his teammates may now feel differently towards this signing, as a 'pity' signing of some sorts or whatever.

How the breakup and him signing a $10 mill contract co-relate I don't know? I wouldn't feel to sorry for ol'Sergei he'll have a million blondes to choose from in LA LA land. HFTO

Is that what you call mental toughness? Couldn't think rationally about the numbers? Give me a break. He understood the numbers Anaheim were offering didn't he? Sergei frimly inserted foot into mouth and rammed it down his throat. Yeah if I'm a Ducks fan, I'm really psyched about Fedorov on my team. Some of these players really need to get a spokesperson or something to do all their talking. He's gonna really be loved if he doesn't produce this year. Oy vay!

Ask Kariya why he took that big pay cut to get out. Ask Selanne how happy he was to get out. The Ducks may be the worst organization in the NHL. Last year was a fluke. Watch the Ducks sink this year. Orange County is the best place to live, with the best climate and the best skiing in the NHL (Colorado included).

I'm pretty sure the Ducks are cup contenders now; Giguere wasn't happy losing in Game 7, and I don't think he's going to mope around about it, either.
