Friday's National Post, of which I'm reading the fine print at 4:45 Saturday AM, reports that Arturs Irbe has been assigned to Johnstown, PA (of 'Slapshot' fame) of the ECHL by Carolina. The 36 year old is making US $2.7 million this season and $2.5 M next season. From the Penthouse (2001/02 Cup finals) to the Outhouse.
Just an irrelevant tidbit.

Basically, the Canes want Irbe to retire and not have to pay him that pretty big amount of cash.
