Cujo sent to Grand Rapids to get some rehab/game shape going. The Wings are going to want to trade him as soon as possible.
It was mentioned by cigar-viper in the post game thread that if Colorado shells out the bucks and acquires a Cujo who finds his Mojo...look out. And I agree.
Would the trade be a straight-up "you take over the contract and we're done"? Or would Detroit ask for someone in return?

I can't see the Wings simply giving Cujo to the Avs..just can't. oh, I don't know about that. wasn't he exposed in the waiver draft? they don't seem to have many options... while it seemed the Wings might be dealing from the position of strength when Hasek returned, the market for Cujo quickly disappeared and now they have an 8 mil. goalie between the pipes of their AHL affiliate team (and his contract runs through the following season also). add to that Hatcher's 5-6 mil. on the injured list and the need to upgrade at forward position and I see a big problem for Holland. I think Ilich would be happy to give Cujo away for free just see his salary moved. no matter how much money you have, you don't want to see 8 mil. going wasted. especially with the new CBA coming up which MIGHT introduce some sort of salary cap with potential penalties for teams going over it (like in NBA). if that were to be the case, Cujo's salary could cost Ilich up to twice what he really earns. so, while I agree Holland would prefer to deal Cujo to an eastern conference team, he could end up being pressured to deal him to whomever and for whatever he could. I expect the Wings to hold on to Cujo for now to see if some team becomes desperate for a top goalie or wait till the trade deadline. it could eventually come down to who blinks first, Lacroix, Sather, Clarke, Pleau or Holland if another injury occurs or Ilich puts pressure on him. Is Detroit willing to eat a large chunk of his salary? They must be if they hope to trade him, because any team could have claimed him off waivers without giving up a thing in return.
I think Cujo may well have managed to price himself out of the NHL.

I think Cujo may well have managed to price himself out of the NHL. Ironically, he's making less than Toronto offered. If he'd stayed in Toronto, he would have made more money and had the #1 job. It's Hasek's return that has him priced too high. If the Wings had made the finals last year, do you think Hasek would have returned? I have a feeling he got a call from Ilich right after Game 4 in Anaheim. Even though it wasn't Cujo's fault.
