Belfour has been sidelined several times this season for short period due to back problems. This period is the longest so far.
Since the Jan 31 win over the Sens, Belfour played once ( last Thursday). He then pulled himself out of last night's game - apparently to Quinn's surprise. When Quinn was questioned about earlier in the week he claimed there was no real problem.
With Kidd in net, the leafs are hard pressed to succeed- he has allowed 17 goals in his last 4 starts.
Perhaps this problem is more serious that the leafs care to say and will distract Ferguson from addressing his other needs.
While leaf fans are probably celebrating Roenick's woes, it looks like they may have something to worry about. Their playoff hopes are tied to the touchy back of a goalie that will be 39 in a couple of months.

I don't understand why they don't give Tellqvist a chance? I know that his numbers haven't been stellar in the AHL but I was really impressed by his showing at the last WC and thought he was the best goalie there. IMO, he has the potential to be be as good (if not better) as Tommy Salo and, with the way Kidd has been playing so far, they have nothing to lose...

I would love for them to give good ol MC "Telly" a shot. (That's the nickname I have on him down here because he "Can't stop that!" .... wrist shot .... "can't stop that" .... backhand ...."can't stop that" ... etc") He tries to make every save spectacular ..... and when he show some positioning skills he gives up rebounds all over the place. The Baby Leafs can have a 4 goal lead and as soon as telly let's in that first one .... everyone in the arena just holds their breathe ....cause we know what's coming.

I heard about that but that just isn't the same goalie I saw playing for his country. maybe he's having a hard time adjusting to the NA game or it could be the lack of confidence thing, I don't know. I can only judge by what I see. still, what do they have to lose? could he possibly be worse than Kidd is now? R.

The leafs had a good backup in Corey Schwab. He held the fort while Joseph was hurt a couple of seasons ago,
When he became UFA they just let him go to the Devils and picked up Kidd. Who do you think they would rather have now?
Schwab has had the last laugh. He's done something this current Toronto gang won't get to do - play in the Finals and win a Stanley Cup.

The best goalie in Toronto's system is Mike Minard.
He can be out of hockey, or on the bench for 2 months straight, it doesn't matter. He doesn't complain, he is a stand up guy in the community in which he plays, and he gives you a solid effort every night. This guy just doesn't have off nights. He would be the perfect back-up in Toronto for Ed Belfour (who plays 60-70 games). Telly needs to play and play often.
He might be 3-0-2 this year but he hasn't really beaten many good teams and 4 goals against Pittsburgh .... well that is just bad.
