Did anyone else see this? Apparently Al Stachan said that Brian Burke is asking for $2 million from the Canucks, so Burke went on HNIC to deny it. He said that if he's not back in Vancouver next year it won't be because he was greedy. He basically said that Strachan just makes things up and presents them as fact and that he does not belong on HNIC. He also called Ron MacLean unprofessional. It was quite a rant and I think it really reflected the view that most westerners, and seemingly most of us on HabsRus, have of the CBC.

I did see this and really enjoyed it. You can always count on Burke to be forthright.
McLean asked him to come on Hot Stove. Burke's reply was that he would not do it as long as that guy (Strachan) is on.
Way to go Brian!

Because he was going along with Strachan's fictitious info?

Have you ever heard Strachan and his rumours.
"A source I won't mention told me .......
"I have it on very good term from a guy in the organization .....
If you listen to every one else JD, Eric D, Jaques Demers, and even Brett Hull ..... they tell you who they got it from. But Strachan makes it up I am sure.

He told MacLean that he should have asked him personally if there was any truth to it before putting it on the air. MacLean responded by asking him if he would have divulged that number ($2 million), and Burke said something like "I would have told you that there's no truth to it, I'm not asking for that kind of money."

Sigh....oh for the good old days of Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin and even Dave Hodge, before he was dumped. McLean is usually ok, perhaps too much of Don Cherry is rubbing off on him. Or Strachan.

Burke certainly was fired up . . . but he doesn't like Strachan at the best of times.
Childhood memories of The Bugs Bunny Show come to me when I hear Strachan: loud-mouthed schnook!

Duthie is a poor boy's Ron McLaean and Hodge tries too hard to be intellectual and politically correct. Remember ol Hodge was rough around the edges once too "That the way we do things here at the CBC".

Though Burke tells it like it is, I think he goes too far. We all know that Strachan is an idiot and all that, but to take it out completely on Ron wasn't very fair. Burke is just bitter and stuck-up.

He most likely won't be re-signed as GM....and what will that do the mood of the players, McKenzie wondered.

Burke is just bitter and stuck-up. Burke is actually a very good GM, and handles his team and players well. He'll be snapped up in an instant if he's not resigned. Basically, the Canucks brass are waiting to see how far the team goes in the playoffs. Burke bitter? What makes you say that, other than his dislike of Strachan? If that's all, Burke simply joins a long list of people who can't stand the mustachioed little weasel.

I think Vancouver would be absolutely nuts not to resign Burke. Not only has he completely turned the team around from a hockey standpoint and brought back the fan interest, but he's been active in lobbying governments for financial help. He also seems to be well-liked by the players and fans.

I had stated that we all know how unreliable Strachan is with his information, but I simply feel that Burke really didn't have the right to take it out on Ron MacLean who was simply (at his own risk, mind you) quoting his material. Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't be pleased if some idiotic journalist was making up statistics about me, but like they say, don't shoot the messenger.
