By the time it was 5-0 Toronto midway through the third period, the Isles had a grand total of 10 shots on goal. Ho-hum. Glad the Isles lost....but the Leetch love-fest has begun....3 assists. One of them on a 5-on-3...ho-hum. The Isles never even showed up. Harry Neale said it was the worst performance from a visiting team he's seen all year.
Wait til the Leafs meet a tough forechecking team....then we'll see how Leetch does. I don't mind the guy....again it's the Leaf media and fans who drool over everyone who puts on a Leafs jersey that bothers me...as if they've been the greatest team since 67.
How bad did the Isles play? Reichel got two goals. ;D

Yep, you gotta take things in context. But we knew it was going to be a rose-coloured glasses next couple of weeks until the warts come out.

As much as it pains me to say it, this is probably Toronto's best chance at a Cup since '67.
The only thing they are missing is a real crease clearer, but even then they have had guys playing above their heads all year (*cough Bryan McCabe cough*). Certainly not an elite blueline, but a pretty darned good one, and, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they add another body back there, a la Brendan Witt.
The only question mark with the Leafs is health. If they can finish 1st overall, and get a first round matchup with either the Islanders or the Sabres, they should cruise into the second round very quickly, with minimum damage done. Then, they can rest up and watch the other contenders beat themselves up in long series'.
Hate to say it, but they look good.

Forget about the Sabres. The Islanders will get Yashin back, and they, too, could make a significant deadline trade that would make them at least competitive. Finally, the Leafs could be facing the Canadiens because the Isles are only 3 points behind the Habs with a game in hand.

I agree they look good but the rest of the top 6 could make it - I am excluding the Habs & the Isles. I agree that seeding is very important. It could make or break a team's playoff hopes. I think their 1993 team was better and they did come within a game of the Finals. The 67 team wasn' t that great. They finished 3rd ( 75 points in 70 games) - 20 points behind the Habs. They just got hot at the right time. (I had to look all that up). What I have been hearing from the media in Toronto is that the leafs don't have much left to trade. There high picks and mid range prospect are gone or are thin. Getting Witt out of Washington now will be more difficult. I believe his value to the Caps his now higher because he is their number one D now.

I admit this guy makes them better but the idea that they now are a lock to make the finals in an ultra competitive division is premature to put it mildly.

Just checked NHL.com summaries. He was on the ice for one goal but it was an Islanders PP.

I would like to see the Leafs make one more big trade where they give away top prospects and top draft choices... then fall short of winning the Cup and at the same time compromising their future for another few years.
These guys are old and the number of prospects on the shelf isn't deep.
