Independent arbitrator Stephan Netzle (Switzerland) announced today that the National Hockey League and the Columbus Blue Jackets did not violate the IIHF-NHL transfer agreement as the NHL club recruited Russian player Nikolai Zherdev from his former club team CSKA Moscow in early December 2003.
Stephan Netzle, a judge from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, wrote in the arbitration report that Zherdev had signed a valid NHL contract with Columbus before the August 15th deadline and was thus eligible to play for the NHL club as of the start of the 2003-2004 season.
