Watching on TSN tonight....Glenn Healey touting every one of the Leafs' acquisitions.
"On Ron Francis: Character guy, quality guy, Stanley Cup champion. Exciting about finishing his career with a Stanley Cup. Excellent deal.
On Johansson: The players said today, it doesn't look like he's lost a step. Give him a month, give him two months...he'll be excellent and just in time to step it up for the third and fourth rounds. What better way to finish your career with a Stanley Cup.
On Chad Kilger: Here, Ferguson went for the future. He's only 27, and if they can get the potential out of him, he'll be great. Again, a quiet, quality guy in the dressing room. Just a great job today by John Ferguson Jr."
All Healey was missing was the short skirt and pom poms. What a shill.

Hmmmmm I am still not impressed by anything Toronto did.
Since Fergie Jr took over he has
1) Bought in Nieuwendyk - always injured and 37 yrs old
2) Acquired Marchment - whoopie and 35 yrs old
3) signed Calle Johannson - retired for a year ala Quinn's Svehla experiment and 37 yrs old. Every piece of news on him I read today in the Toronto media was all about how great he was in the 80s and early 90's, and they actually had the gaul to emphasis that he tied a career record by playing in 82 games in 2003. Whoopie!!! Guess what .... this is not 1990 ....
4) Traded for Francis - great player 5 years ago. Remember they bought in Gilmour last year and at the time he had 30 points, Francis has 29 now. And he is 41 yrs old
5) traded for Brian Leetch - he hasn't done anything in years with the most expensive and supposed talented players in the league. What do people see in this guy. At the Olympics he looked lost. And he is 36 yrs old.
6) Commited the original sin in hockey - claimed a Hab.
As much as the are idolizing Fergie Jr now .... watch them turn on him when the first round exit comes.

He is a quality guy but he is 41. Johannson. Hasn't lost a step? That was in practice. Wait till the games start and we'll see. If they wait one or two months their season will be over. And besides, what were they supposed to say to the media. Kilger. If this is the leafs future they are in trouble. He's 27 already. What you see with Chad now is all you are going to get. I am really starting to think that Healy's shill job is nothing more than a transparent attempt to get a job with the organization. Guys like him get the hopes of the average up. I work with guys that are leaf fans and know their hockey. They are not buying Healy's crap. Quality guys like McKenzie must cringe when they are listening to him.

Joe Nieuwendyk is a clutch player if ever I saw one and he impressed me in Leafs games I saw this year. He's one of the best faceoff men inthe game. And I'm afraid you're drastically underrating Brian Leetch. He can still play. The Toronto power play just got a big shot in the arm. I can't comment on Calle Johansson at this point.

Agreed on Nieuwendyk....when he's healthy, he's one of the most energetic Leafs on the ice. And yes, Leetch does improve Toronto's PP...which means it also improves their diving ability. Love to see the Leafs get called for diving unsportsmanlike throughout the playoffs.

Francis - Except for the part about winning the Cup, Healy is right. He is a quality guy but he is 41. Francis won two Cups in Pittsburgh 91-92. And, yes, Francis is a quality guy....my point was that Healy didn't say ONE bad thing about the Leafs' pickups....the glass wan't just full, it was overflowing.

Healy just shoots off his mouth without thinking . Come on - unlocking Kilger's potential? The guys offers no insight at all. The leaf fans I know don't buy his line at all. He does not belong on a national network. Leafs TV - maybe.

He improves their PP? Lets see .... the first game he had two second assists and the first one was all Gary Robert's deflection to Sundin and the third assist he got was on a 5 on 3. Come on even Traverse could do that. He was more trying to keep the puck in the zone on one and dumped it in. I know luck has a part of skill .... but I am not buying this horse crap on him. He really shored up the PP on Satan's goal didn't he ....and all you could hear was "Leetch will always try to keep it in ... good play ...Toronto will have to adjust to him" .... if it was Pilar they would have berated him until the game was over. Last night they got 5 goals .... went 0-3 on the PP .... against Florida .... where is the Leetch talk there? Ohhh he never registered a point .... ahhh shucks.

Just a great job today by John Ferguson Jr." You know, Chad spent more time with us than he did any other team. If we of all teams couldn't get the potential out of him, despite more playing time when we had a much worse team, I doubt he'll be scoring 40 points for the Maple Leafs.

Can they still claim Gordie Howe out of retirement.
