Pretty tongue-in-cheek gesture by city council....but if you wear a Leaf sweater to the Corel Centre, you have to make a donation to the Ottawa food bank.
Pretty harmless, good-natured stuff....but the Leafs fans are boiling about it on Toronto radio. "Why should we be penalized....it's a free country....blah blah blah".
Relax, Leaf nation....I don't think they'll be able to turn you away if you don't have a box of Kraft dinner. It's all in fun, and a great gimmick.

Blue food is just not a very popular dietary choice for human beings. - www.colormatters.com/appmatters.htmlHowever, a clever ad campaign based around the slogan "Soylent Blue is people" might perchance expand the membership of Leaf Nation.

CBC Radio "Ottawa Morning" contacted CBC Radio "Toronto Morning" (or whatever) and the Toronto host called the Corel Centre the Coral Centre. (In fact, after the interview ended the Ottawa host asked "Did he call it the Coral Centre?". Just more boneheadity.
Leaf fans are just worried because they're going nowhere -- again. And because the team didn't play last night they need something to whine about. One guy actually said "If I have to bring food to the game I'm not going"; to which I say "Fine!" -- one less loudmouth to worry about.
Looking forward to the Sens-Leaf game to close the season -- got my ticket and I'm actually going to cheer for the Sens (can't believe it). Wish I knew who the Sens were going to play first round -- it would influence my decision to by tickets.
A final thought: rumours are going around the the Leafs are so desperate for a back-up goalie that Johnny Bower may come out of retirement. The added benefit: it'll lower the average age of the team ;D

This is a really good gesture. I hope more cities follow Ottawa's lead on this. A classy thing to do, get people to help the less fortunate, I just hope the Ottawa fans are as classy as the organization and bring food items as well.

I think it's kind of funny. Talk about an insecure fan base. It sounds like they're afraid of facing TO in the playoffs again.
I find it all the more satisfying on nights, like last Saturday, when we can send home a bunch of unhappy jersey wearing Leaf fans.

I think that if they are going to do this they should do it across the board - if you are wearing the jersey of any team other than the Senators you must make a donation.
I agree with Andrew - it makes them look insecure.

It's because they are.
They will continue to be afraid of the big bad Buds until they actually win a playoff round against them.
And should they not meet in the playoffs (though it looks likely this year, first round) and the Sens go on but the Leafs do not Leaf fan will say "but you still haven't beat us when it counts) and Sens fan will wimper and whine and say "but we coulda" (to which Leaf fan would reply "in your dreams" and Sens fan would reply "but we never elected Mel Lastman as mayor" or something equally intelligent: "your mother wears army boots").
