I caught a highlight of St. Louis' goal against Edmonton tonight and find it really pathetic. Some Blue took a shot on Markkanen, who lost it and then sat on it. A good 2 seconds later the same Blue races in and jams his stick into Markkanen's pads (running into him at the same time) trying to dislodge the puck, which is out of sight. Brewer grabs him by the neck and throws him down, and the ref gives Brewer a penalty! What a moron. And I say that with all the venom I can muster. What a fool. Either call both players or don't call either, but don't call Brewer for defending his goalie from an obvious infraction and then watch as the Blues score a goal on the PP.
The NHL really has to work on its officiating. This year I've seen more foolish calls and stupid decisions than I've seen in a long time. This one just really burned me as Edmonton has worked so hard to get into position to make the playoffs and they don't need an official helping out the opposition. Twit.

Turned out to be the game-winning goal, too.

Expansion has diluted the NHL gene pool in this area (officiating) as well. Not to worry though, Bettman thinks the game is in good shape.
