Hi Guys, I figured with the playoffs just around the corner, it would be interesting to hear what everyone thinks might happen this year. Technically, this could be under Discussion as the Habs are going to be in the playoffs. But right now I'm not that optomistic about their chances. There are teams that the Habs seem to match up well against, and Jose might decide to give us championship goaltending, but anything past the second round would require the everything in the heavens to line up. My favourite in the East is New Jersy. I always say defense, and in the case of hockey - goaltending, wins championships. If they come into the playoffs healthy, with Stevens back and well rested, I would not be surprised if they go all the way again, never rule out the defending champs. In the West, I have to go with the top place Red Wings. And I think they are going to do it with Legace between the pipes. This guy could easily be a number one elsewhere. Out of the 16 teams to make the playoffs, it looks like only 3 have goaltenders who have won a cup. I think last year we started to see a changing of the guard, is this the year we see someone step up? I know, really sticking my neck out by picking the defending champs and the team 1st overall.

I'll go with Ottawa in the East. They are the highest scoring team in the league and ca also play good defense. Muckler made some good moves at the deadline and they should have additional grit when Varada gets back. They have been progressing winning no rounds 3 years ago and then one round two years ago and then two rounds last year. Lalime has been maligned but gets the job done in the playoffs. In the last 2 years his playoff numbers are much better than his regular season stats. (link below) tsn.ca/nhl/teams/player_bio.asp?player_id=1699&hubname=OTTIn the west I will go out on a limb and say San Jose. I have only seen them a couple of times but they have a nice tandem in goal, a good young defense and are disiplined & well coached.

I'm with you on that one. I have a feeling that either San Jose or Dallas will end up in the finals. In the East, I'll be a homer and go with us. The Habs have had a nack for surprising me each time I've been ready to count them off. Each time they come back better. There it is: Montreal over SJ in 6.

1986 revisited ( not 1989).
Oh . . . you want me to be realistic?
Ottawa in the east (firepower makes up for Lalime; lack of firepower does in Brodeur). Detroit in the west (Legace is enough to carry the Wings over Dallas).
Finals: pick 'em (Ottawa in 6).
I reserve the right to change my mind (hence the colour).
