NYI beat the Canes tonight to clinch the last spot & if my math is correct are now only one point behind the Habs. Each team has one game remaining.
Montreal needs a point to clinch seventh as the Isles can't catch them on the first tiebreaker - wins. Finishing eighth means Tampa Bay & I don't like their chances with that matchup.

Hopefully Buffalo will be disappointed and let us win tomorrow night, but that's not bloody likely.

I'm not sure why everyone is so hot on Tampa. A team that has lost only 21 man-games to injury and plays in the weakest division in hockey should not worry anyone. I'd rather play them, because theyre not a physical team, and their goaltending might crumble under pressure. Throw in an injury or two (more likely in the tough playoffs) and you've got the recipe for a very disappointed Florida.

They may play in a weak division but they have played all the Eastern contenders ( Philly, Ottawa, Boston, NJ, Toronto) and beaten them. I think they will build on last year's experience and make it to at least the third round.

So might the goaltending of their opponent, especially since the Lightning have much better scorers, they're faster than the Habs, and the Habs aren't such a physical team themselves. Why should the Lightning worry about them?

I know you can toss out all kinds of support for them. My gut feel?....if they get any kind of injury, they don't make the second round. If they stay healthy, they don't make the 3rd, no matter who they play. I offer no proof, just intuition.
