I don't recall seeing a goalie blow two easier shots in a 7th game, ever. Two years ago, Roy got lit up by Detroit in the 7th game....and last year, Belfour got hammered 6-1 by Philly....but it wasn't their fault. They were swarmed. But hey....Game 7...anything can happen....ask Boston.

Buckner ;D. The biggest goat of all time. Poor sap. Lalime choked bigtime last night. I'm really surprised too. Two goals from the same spot basically. I don't know where his head was, but it wasn't in the game. He and Bonk are my picks for players to be given a run out of town. Bonk has never, ever, shown up for the playoffs. Lalime was great for them last year, but hasn't been consistant all year. There is already a slew of talk about firing Martin, and cleaning house. I'm not sure about that. Of the coaches out there that are available, or might be after this season, who's better? Who could get more out of this team. Bowman is likely the only one, but I don't see him going back behind the bench. I wouldn't blow up the roster either. Guys like Hossa, Alfredsson, Chara, Fisher ... these guys showed up and played hard. The fact is they couldn't get pucks passed Belfour. Their usually potent PP was non-existant. Martin was right on in the PGPC. I think the core should stay. The above names, along with Havlat, Schaefer, Philips, Prusek, and Vermette should be back. Everyone else . As I see them, they lack a legit number one centre. Bonk is done, White doesn't do it for me, Smolinski is a good #3 at this point in his career, and Spezza's future with the team is in real question for me. The fact that Martin sat him in favor of Vermette in about five of the seven games tells me a number of things. One, Spezza and Martin don't get along (Martin is a player's coach, a real amiable guy if you can't get along with this guy you've got problems). Two, Spezza still hasn't memorized the directions to his own end of the ice, and gets lost regularly. Three Spezza is a twit. Someone needs to crack the whip with this kid. Scare him a lot, not a little. This is where I'm not sure Martin can get the job done. Still, I don't see the taskmaster the team needs out there.

Talk in Ottawa for the past 5 years is "fire Martin". Talk hasn't changed today.
With such a talented team he just isn't getting it done. There won't be a house cleaning -- everyone is signed on the cheap, and who would you replace? Spezza does not fit into the Sens system, so may be going -- it's either him or Martin.
Bonk is another one traded often by the fans. He is inconsistent . . . and when he isn't doing anything he is invisible. I didn't even know he played last night. I feel bad for Lalime, but we saw it coming. there is a reason he's bounced from team to team. Emery is the man next year (if he can keep his temper).
Replacement for Martin: anyone with a personality -- someone between him and MT. Martin is a nice guy, but he just hasn't inspired/led the troups.

I don't think Muckler and the Sens will rely on the young, volatile, Emery at this point. He's got a bright future, but I think they'll want someone in there with experience and ability.

Hasek said he will play next year, so there's still one two many goalies in Detroit, maybe the sens will go for Joseph. Who better then Joseph to stop the leafs in next year playoffs.

Whenever I have seen Ken Holland interviewed about Hasek he indicates in a round about way that Hasek is through in Detroit. Maybe Belfour will be avaialable - he could be a UFA after this season. The more likely scenario is the Kiprusoff type of trade - a strong goalie with some NHL experience that isn't getting playing time in his current situation. Garon comes to mind but I wonder about that on two fronts: - do you help a divisional opponent? - who will back up Theodore?

Wasn't serious about Emery -- he's not ready for the pressure. I don't know if Lalime will go anywhere . . . maybe he had a "Theoyear" and will bounce back. A lot of sour feelings in Ottawa today, but they'll get over it. Maybe. Same feeling here as if TO were to beat the Habs: disbelief and horror. But let's face it: you can't blame everything on Lalime -- if I recall correctly, Belfour had 3 SOs -- hard to win if you don't score a goal (unless you're Stummerman's team )

I've read somewhere the possibility of Sens going after Kolzig which to me makes sense for both teams.

Bondra expressed his desire to retire as a Capital before he was traded and, after his disappointing playoff performance, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Washington next year, if there is a season.

Hindsight being what it is, Muckler should have advised Melnyk to spend his money on Kolzig instead of Bondra and DeVries at the trade deadline. Ottawa would very likely be moving on. Kolzig is twice the goalie Lalime and would have definitely stopped those two marshmallows in Game 7....man, Lalime didn't even give his team a chance in that game. We'll never know...IF is a huge word....and the Leafs' favourite for the last 37 years.

Maybe we should rename that other team the Toronto Maple Ifs!
