Too bad Calgary won't win -- I'd love to avenge '89. Hehehehe. That would be nice. The lack of secondary scoring is really going to hurt them against a team as deep as Detroit. Iginla is going to get a facefull of the grind line. Not having Gauthier for the series (according to Duhatchek [sp?]) hurts them big time too. Kipper has been very good for them thus far. Can he carry them passed Detroit? I doubt it. Calgary is going to give them a good run though. They could steal a game in Detroit, as Nashville almost did, and they should do well at home. Calgary also has a history of playing Detroit very well. I think it may go the distance. If Calgary can force a game 7 it's anyone's series to win. Still I think Detroit will likely win out in 6.

You should see this city... They are going absolutely nuts! After they won game seven, people were out in the street celebrating... You could've sworn they won the cup. Even though Calgary lost twice at home vs the 'nucks, I think that they'll take all three here this series. THis will be a good series. Calgary has NO scoring depth, but that's because lines 2-3-4 are all grind lines, which is just what you need to shut down offensive guns like datsyuk and zetterberg. Sutter has the flames playing tough hockey, and it wears teams down. They will be hurt by the loss of Gauthier, and Simon and Lydman will be out till mid series. Iginla wil get a face full of Hatcher, Draper, Chelios and Maltby, but the way he's playing, I don't think anyone can stop him. Goalie edge goes to the flames. Can't wait.

Game 1 Flames 2 Wings 1 OT
Nilsson scores from Gelinas with a seeing eye shot to the top corner over Cujo's left hand. A shocker for the home crowd. Saw the OT only, so can't comment on the rest of the game.

Nashville pushed Detroit to 6 with two wins, and Calgary is playing with much more intensity and confidence than the Preds, with a hot, hot goalie and a sniper on a mission. Hard to argue with all the talent on Detroit, so that slight edge goes to the Pres Cup winners who will be pressed to the edge by this year's real cinderella story...USA's Hockeytown Team in 7.

Flames up 3-2 after beating Detroit this afternoon. Wow, are the Flames a sleeper pick or what?

Game 6: Gelinas scores in the final minute of the first OT.....1-0 Calgary takes the series 4-2. Not too many predicted this one, if any.
Poor Cujo....that's two years in a row the Wings have faced the hottest goalie in the playoffs. Kirpusoff's for real...I haven't seen anyone cooler.
Could see a Khabibulin-Kiprusoff final the way these two guys are playing.
Cowboy hats off to Calgary...take THAT Glenn Healy; once again you coached and cheered for an American-based team instead of a Canadian-based team while working for CBC. Boston in the first round, now Detroit. Who are you going to cheer for now? Colorado or San Jose, I imagine.

I've been quietly cheering for the Flames throughout the entire playoffs and ever since the Habs were knocked out, my attention has solely shifted to them.
*Are the Flames all about hard work or what? They bring their lunch pails to the arena and do not stop plugging away until they hear a whistle or a buzzer. What an unbelievable effort versus the President's Trophy winning Wings!
*CuJo played an unbelievable game and series it's unfortunate for him that he lost.
*That's two years in a row that Detroit was knocked about by an underdog team with a hot goalie. And that's two years in a row where the final dagger was delivered in overtime. It hurts to get knocked out in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but it must hurt ten times more to get knocked out by an OT goal.
I really hope the Flames can go all the way. I love the way their team plays and their fans really deserve it after sticking with the team for all those hard years.
GO FLAMES GO!

Derian Hatcher, the Red Wings prized free-agent acquisition of last summer, sure disappointed. He didn't play up to his capabilities or paycheck. He had some beauty giveaways throughout the playoffs and as usual, he took some senseless penalties as well. But the last image of Hatcher in this year's playoffs is on Gelinas' series-winning goal.
Similar to how Rivet was standing around watching Lecavalier tie up the game in the last minute, Hatcher was standing around watching the puck while his responsibility (Gelinas) was left wide open in front of the net to score the winning goal in OT.

Can't believe how tentative the Wings played. So many loose pucks picked up by the Flames b/c of that......That was an outrageously manic 3rd period. I yelled so loud when the Flames scored in OT that my roommates cat is still hiding under the bed...... Doesn't matter where Gelinas goes, he's a playoff performer. Kudos to the hardest working team in the league!
I'll give Lewis until Friday to pack his bags.
