. . . before Sather snaps him up. Talks are supposed to be ongoing . . . but why would anyone want to sign on with the Rags before they find out about other possible calls?
Quenveville might inded be the man for the job . . . Mike Keenan has been mentioned (on this board and briefly inthe media), but does anyone want to play for him? Other names include John Paddock (in the minors).
And Martin? Phoenix, possibly, with the Gretzky connection (from the Ottawa media). Why not? He might get them into the playoffs eight years in a row, and maybe even make it passed the first round -- something the Jets/Coyotes have never done.

I'm torn with the firing myself. Martin is great coach that was a victim of too many players not showing up when needed, and a hot goalie on the other team. In reality it's easier to remove the coach than 15 players form the roster. I see the other side of the coin too. Martin is a players coach. This type tends to last awhile, but never really get the team any huge success. What the team needs in order to win is a general. A guy that will scare them enough to go out and get the job done and realize their potential. Bowman was great at this, but he's not interested. Keenan used to be, but no one wants to see him bring in Matteau, Noonan, and every other guy he had on every other team. Robinson might be a good fit. I'd hate loosing to them even more then . Quenville is a great coach, but is he enough of a task master? If Burns weren't with NJ, and wasn't battling cancer I'd say go after him. One of the five Sutters would be a fine choice. The only certainty is that Jacques will land on his feet with a job before too long. Being fired after a nice contract extension means he's gonna get some nice bank for doing nothing for the next while.

but why would anyone want to sign on with the Rags before they find out about other possible calls? Because there's no better place to be a winner than in NY! Of course, there's no worse place to be a loser, either... but expectations for the Rangers will not be what they were for a few years, at least. I think Martin would be a better fit in NY than Quenneville since the Rangers are in a rebuild mode. Quenneville would have made more sense a few years ago. Still, I'd gladly welcome either behind my bench.

I could easily see Quennville in Detroit next year.
