Reliable source (so says Bill Watters) as Simmons and Roberts have been friends since their days in Calgary. www.torontosun.com/Slam040509/col_simmons-sun.htmlIf true, and Nieuwendyk follows (along with who knows who else) perhaps JFJ will reconsider and dump Quinn. The team and its chances are dissolving. Love him or hate him, Gary Roberts was the impetus behind the Leafs' dirt/tenacity.

The heart and soul without a doubt. I hate him in a Leafs uni, but would appreciate him immensely in a habs uni. Hmmmm....., nah, he and Ribs could never co-exist. On the other hand, is that so bad?....

Another thing Leaf Nation keeps crowing about is Tucker's hit on Kapanen in Game 6 OT. Phone calls today were along the lines of, "It made the loss easier to take." "It'll get me through the summer." What these Leafs' fans don't seem to realize is that it was Kapanen's courageous determination to get to the bench that kept the play alive, and we all know what happened then. Leafs radio play-by-play Joe Bowen (who has called the Leafs the "Bay Street Bullies" since they mauled the Islanders and Senators two years ago) called the play this way, and I quote: "Oh and Tucker just about killed Sami Kapanen! Kapanen is down and out! Trying to get to the bench...he can't!....Sundin to the line...over the line...can't get the shot....oh what a hit that was! Roenick with Amonte...two-on-one...shoots...scores." All because Kapanen DID get to the bench, Joe. And while you and Leaf Nation were still admiring the hit.... it was over. Too bad Kapanen didn't just lie there like...oh let's say Darcy Tucker...to try and draw a penalty or stop the play. Kudos to Sami. To me, he's one of the biggest stories in these playoffs. He played defense in 5 of those 6 games. And he's playing defense tonight in Game 2 in Tampa....and has a beautiful goal. What's Tucker doing?

This was supposed to be a Cup team? Sounds like they have nothing much to cheer about if another of Tucker's cheap shots keeps them warm at night.

I have a lot of trouble with SImmons & don't find him much better than Strachan. He throws out unsubstantiated statements about Foote, Gigurere and others as if they were fact. No sources, nothing that would indicate they are anywhere near the truth. Yet he presents them as fact.

Leafs fans should be reminded that they don't give out diamond-encrusted championship rings for a "hit". And it was cheap. Tucker left his feet and went for the head, as he does on a lot of his hits. He was called for charging Malakhov on a very similar hit. Malakhov suffered a concussion...Kapanen spent the days between series feeling nauseous too...Ron MacLean managed to sneak that in to the Flames-Sharks Game 2 post-game segment. Cherry also got in the fact that even though the Boston logo is his favourite, the Toronto Maple Leafs' jersey is the most popular one wherever they go.

Or lets say flip around and pull a Ribs True, but at least Kapanen would have been justified in doing so. ;D I used Tucker for a reference because he dives all the time, along with Roberts and Domi. In fact, I was watching the Leafs-Ottawa series on ESPN and Tucker dove twice so blatantly that Darren Pang said that he was an embarrassment.
