This news doesn't make any sense to me. Dudley's Panthers improved every year while he was there. * The Florida Panthers have fired general manager Rick Dudley. He has been offered another position within the organization.Dudley, who joined the Panthers in May 2002, coached the team from November 9, 2003 to February 9, 2004 - after firing Mike Keenan and before hiring John Torchetti. In his six seasons as an NHL general manager, Dudley's teams have improved every year. Dudley was senior vice president and general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning for two and a half years before joining the Panthers. He served as general manager of the Ottawa Senators for the 1998-99 season. The Panthers extended Dudley's contract in January for the 2004-05 season www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=85082&hubName=nhl

The Panthers are a young team, but the problem is, a lot of players on the team are all the same: full of a lot of non-physical, finesse European players. Sounds like the Senators, except not as good.
The only thing(s) they have going for them right now are Luongo, Bouwmeester and Horton. Jokinen we'll never know, but Van Ryn had a good season offensively last year.
We'll see.

You're right Mattias.
They do seem to have a lot of skill and finesse but not enough grit or physicality.
As you mentioned, Horton should help in that dept. and let's not forget that they have Anthony Stewart coming up soon too.

Perhaps suffering from a little Lightning envy?

It's a completely different team than the one that went to the Finals way back in 1996.

Rumor from the radio this morning says Mike Keenan will be named the new GM, with Jacques Martin as his coach.
If so, that would explain the Dudley firing - him and Keenan have been in a power struggle for quite some time now, and I guess we know who the winner is. Wasn't Keenan forbidden from even attending practices at one point?

Shows to go you.

The Panthers are an up and coming team. So who's going to do the research to figure out who make all those good deals and draft choices? Horton and Stewart are good ones, Luongo's the best young goalie out there and maybe the best goalie period and there are some quite talented players on this team. Grit isn't that hard to come by, is it Bob?
So did Dudley get shafted before his team could develop?

Wasn't Keenan forbidden from even attending practices at one point? On Sportscentre Bob McKenzie said the same thing. Mike Keenan will take over as GM and he'll bring his long-time pal Jacques Martin over to be head coach. Also, Pierre McGuire mentioned something about the Panthers still owing Keenan money from his last contract. I'm actually surprised that Keenan and Martin are such good friends. They seem like completely opposite personalities to me.
