Colorado Avalanche goalie Tommy Salo has decided to play in Sweden next season, the Denver Post reports. Sources close to Salo tell the newspaper he will likely end up playing for MoDo of the Swedish Elite League. Salo could be joined by Colorado teammate Peter Forsberg, who is reportedly considering a return to Sweden as well next season.
The 33-year-old spent most of this past season with the Edmonton Oilers before being acquired by Colorado at the trade deadline to back up David Aebischer for the rest of the season. He was 1-3-1 with the Avalanche and appeared in one game in relief of Aebischer in the playoffs. The Avalanche were not expected to pick up the $4-million option on his contract for next season, making him a free agent. Phil Sauve and Peter Budaj are expected to fight for the backup spot behind Aebischer with the Avalanche.R.

The exodus will only pick up steam over the summer with letters of intent and contracts being signed left right and centre. Jagr is ready to play for one of the Moscow clubs, Hnlicka and Renberg have signed with clubs in their native lands, St-Louis and Heatly have signed provisional contracts with European clubs... this page tracks the contract status of NHL players.
