Report: Sens to hire Murray as coach
TORONTO (CP) -- The Ottawa Senators are expected to name Anaheim Mighty Ducks GM Bryan Murray their new head coach, according to Rogers Sportsnet.
While an Ottawa spokesman would not comment on the unsourced report, the team has called a news conference for Tuesday afternoon.--full article--R.

That team needs some adjusting. Big time. They have way too many of the same players: finesse, goal-scorers. They don't have anybody who can grind it out and score the ugly, important goals. Not to mention that the team doesn't have enough desire to succeed. The Sens aren't as good as they boast to be.

Says a lot about the situation in Anaheim (and Ottawa) that Murray would step down from GM to coach. Disney's Ducks Hockey Team Would Have To Go Kurt Badenhausen, 02.11.04, 3:45 PM ET
NEW YORK - The NHL's Mighty Ducks of Anaheim have been on the market for several years with no buyers willing to step up and meet the price established by the franchise's owner, The Walt Disney Co. Reports indicated that at one time Disney was looking for as much as $150 million for the franchise, three times what it paid as an expansion fee in 1992. But potential suitors have been scared off by the team's red ink and a potential work stoppage that threatens to shut down the NHL indefinitely starting next season. - www.forbes.com/business/2004/02/11/cz_kb_0211ducks.html

Ottawa has just made a lateral move. Murray's teams are almost always middle of the road at best.
Somehow I'm not surprised that Muckler chose Murray. The guy has no imagination whatsoever. Like Sather, his reputation was built on the backs of players like Gretzky and Messier.
I'll take our management and coaching over Ottawa's any day of the week.

Have to say I agree with Bob....although Murray said today on the radio that he and Martin differ greatly on the physical style they want their teams to play.
Look at Calgary...it's arguable that had the Sens played with that Calgary tenacity, they'd have been in the Cup final this year. But do they have the personnel for that? Ah...the perfect blend of finesse and brawn...not many teams have it. Habs of the 70's...the Isles of the 80's. Detroit had it in their Cup runs too...
What the Sens really need is a franchise goaltender. Perhaps Jr. phenom Kelly Guard will get his chance sooner than later.
