www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=88820&hubName=nhlVANCOUVER (CP) - Vancouver Canucks star Todd Bertuzzi was charged Thursday with assault causing bodily harm for his on-ice attack on Colorado Avalanche player Steve Moore that left Moore with neck injuriesMmh... don't know if that's a good thing. Player's health should be protected as much as possible, but I must think about it a bit more. Could have a huge impact for the future. Does that affect Perezoghin's case ?

IMO, when there's something this blatant and pre-meditated, charges aren't a bad thing, not at all. I doubt it, Zhogin had been taken a beating and it was a "spur of the moment" thing, which isn't an excuse, but sure lessens the consequences for him.

I doubt it, Zhogin had been taken a beating and it was a "spur of the moment" thing, which isn't an excuse, but sure lessens the consequences for him. Actually, I would have leaned the other way - I think this increases the chances Perezhoghin will be charged. How can Hamilton justify NOT charging him, given the precedent? Sure, he was attacked first, but so what? If a guy punches me in the nose, and I stomp his head so bad, he dies, will the police just walk away, saying "meh, he did get punched in the nose...?" Or will they charge me with assault, and let a judge and jury decide whether my reaction was justified by the provocation? I also wouldn't say Perezhoghin "was taking a beating." With the (possible) exception of the final slash to the back of the head, everything else was something Perezhoghin is going to recieve in the NHL, ten times worse. We want our defensemen to be mean, and dirty, and to hurt opposing forwards. Its why some people want to draft Valabik. Its why we have the whole "Komisarus Rex" nickname. "Pay the price" and all that. By the strict wording of the rule book, a defensemen is only allowed to push a forward standing in front of the net. But of course, we want our defensemen to make life miserable for anybody who ventures into that area, and simply "pushing" them isn't going to accomplish that. We want defensemen who are going to stick, and hack, and hurt people. Just like Stafford did. I'd say there is an excellent chance Perezhoghin gets his day in court now...

I'd plead self defence. No excess of force, the other guy did the same thing first, so Alex responded with a similar weapon. What's he supposed to do, offer the guy a Tim Horton's coffee and a strawberry tart? (That would be the strawberry tart that HA keeps around, I don't know her name).

This is hockey. Guys get hit and sometimes guys get hurt. The LA police department beat people up worse than Bertuzzi did every day. It happens in Montreal too bleeding hearts, I've seen it. Probably Vancouver as well. What Bertuzzi did was monumentally stupid, but not criminal.
