Story is here: www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=89676I'd honestly like to know what the heck Carolina is doing, here. Weekes is really starting to come into his own, and instead they sign a guy who didn't even have that great a year, last year. Perhaps they feel they have better keepers in the minors, or they're planning on getting somebody else for cheaper. Either way, Weekes could make a team like St. Louis, Ottawa or Philadelphia really dangerous.

I would think the leafs would be interested but they have already signed 39 year old Belfour to a sweetheart deal. After all, Weekes is only 29, too young for Toronto There must be something about this guy - the next team he plays for will be his sixth squad & he hasn't even hit 30 yeras old.

Drafted by the Panthers, traded to Vancouver as part of the Bure deal, dealt to the Islanders for Potvin, traded to the Lightning, and finally to the Hurricanes. At the time, none of those teams were particularly great, and I don't think a lot of them were particularly patient with his development. Even teams like Vancouver or Edmonton could become stronger in goal with Weekes.
