The 2006 edition of Team Canada might go down as one of the worst TEAMS I've ever seen represent us. That group of INDIVIDUALS never once were on the same page. Play like losers and you're going to lose.
Communication skills and passing were some of the ugliest I've ever seen. Lots of "you get", and what not.
If it was possible, I'd think they threw the tournament a la the White Sox. Simply awful.

Semi-Final Finland-Russia
Finns up 4-0. Kasparaitis goes back to his old goon tactics...this time on Koivu. A double-minor...first for checking into the boards which may have well been 5....and then he straight-arms him in the chops for the second 2.
Thankfully, Koivu is okay.

It's 13:00 minutes into the 3rd period of the bronze medal game. The Czechs are leading 2-0 & have one shot on goal. Just hanging on at this point. Vokoun much better here than he was agianst Canada.
EDIT: Czechs win 3 -0 ( last goal into an EN)
Kovalchuk scores 4 goals in the tournament - all of them in one game and gets thrown out of this game for elbowing.
Didn't see a lot of the Russians but watching Yashin today reminded me of his playoff performances while he was in Ottawa.

High-scoring Russians shut out in both medal round games. Canada shouldn't feel so bad.
After reading the article on TSN.ca, it sounds as if the bronze is bittersweet for the Czechs. Vokoun said he feels a better effort against the Swedes would've put them in the gold medal game.
Perhaps he means that if the coach had put HIM in the net instead of Hnilicka, who was pulled after allowing 5 goals, they may have had a chance. Vokoun paid quite the price for a couple of bad goals vs. Canada.
Certainly Jim Hughson and Greg Millen thought Vokoun should've been in net from the get-go against the Swedes. Hindsight's a wonderful thing.
Kovalchuk has a dirty streak in him, eh? 5 for elbowing allowed the Czechs to score the winning goal.

Swedes win gold medal game 3-2. Was Koivu a factor? I saw the 1st 2 periods & I thought he played well. He was originally awarded the 1st Finnish goal but it was later changed. Din't see the 3rd.

Congrats to our women's team. Successful defense of the gold medal. Hats off to Sweden, who gave it everything they had. Were they ever thrilled to get that silver. Was at that game, it was a blast. Front row behind the Swedish net so saw lots of action down in that end. It was a much better experience than the Finnish and Swiss games for the men, despite the real treat of watching and listening to those die hard Swiss hockey fans and our fans trying to keep pace. They were as good as those Dutch speed skating fans, although at the 1500m our ladies gave the Canadian fans a nice one two punch!! I had a chance to talk to a number of the ladies' hockey team at the mens curling final on Friday night and they said the atmosphere was great, it was like a home game. Kudos to the large swarm of Canadian fans who attended and supported their efforts. Major kudos to the ladies team, they are a class act on and off the ice.

Swedes win gold medal game 3-2. Was Koivu a factor? His line had another strong game, but Koivu made a mistake on the winning Swedish goal by going to the bench to replace his broken stick... the Swedes entered the Finnish zone 4-on-3 and Sundin dropped it to Lidstrom for, what turned out to be, the winning goal. Had Koivu been in the play, He would've either covered Sundin or Lidstrom and in that case, perhaps the goal doesn't happen. Still, a very strong tournament by our captain. He finished second in scoring behind Selanne.
