I wonder if Higgins injury (6 weeks) will change the dynamics for Gainey... Souray and Higgins combine one third of the total goals scored by the Habs. With Higgins now out, Bob can't trade Souray (that is if he ever wanted to...).

, and we don't have the cap room to do Conroy + a defenseman for Souray. I don't see a match here, myself. Conroy = 2.394 million (and solves our second line center issue) Sopel = 2.4 million Total = 4.794 million ===================== Souray = 2.28 million Ergo if we need a defenseman + Conroy then it has to be a defenseman on LA with a salary 1 million or under. That would limit our options to: Mike Weaver or Kevin Dallman

Bring up Beauchemin or Hainsey. If they're not available, bring up Traverse.

Hey don't shoot the messenger ... I am just showing you the fallacies in some of these "proposals". If O'Byrne is holding his own with the dogs, and doesn't have to clear waivers ... well I'd rather we see what he has.

I'm hoping that Sheldons wife gets a restraining order prohibiting him from living within 2,000 miles of her home.

I'm hoping that Sheldons wife gets a restraining order prohibiting him from living within 2,000 miles of her home. Funny, but she's the one that needs it. She filed false police reports of abuse. As far as I'm concerned, she's the guilty party in all of this. I really think Sheldon is taking the high road and trying to make things work. As it stands right now, I'm leaning towards choosing Souray over Markov. Is Markov steadier? Yes. Sheldon is a better leader, a better guy in the room, and as long as he continues to work at simplifying his game he'll be fine in his own end. Sheldon is playing like a man that wants a contract. Andrei, despite the stats, isn't playing up to his usual standard IMO. As far as Conroy is concerned, I have no interest. I realise the Kings are butting up against the cap, and need to move salary to take any on, but Conroy is done at this point. I'm only interested in the likes of Frolov, Sullivan, Brown, Camilleri, etc.

A few years back I thought Souray really didn't want the responsibilities that go along with wearing an "A". But, the man has become a leader both on and off the ice. I have to agree with several people here as well. Moving Souray right now is probably very bad timing. The club continues to gel as a team and every little bit of meida or fan-generated controversy just solidifies them that much more (note how many of them were sticking up for each other last night). It would have to be a pretty sweet deal to move "Shelly" as he's known by his mates. Cheers.

How can you replace him at this point with anything that is remotely similar. If we had O'Byrne looking ready to make the jump to the NHL I would consider it. And I understand the whole buy low, sell high thing, but, he's playing the best hockey of his career and he seems to love it in Montreal. He plays like he has a sense of belonging and hopefully that makes him want to stay. In the end though, Gainey will make a fair offer, I'm sure and if it doesn't go well, he'll be traded for whatever we can get.

Souray is very good with the media too. He keeps comments positive and simple...and they're allways "team-first" oriented. From what I've seen anyway.
I love the way he went right to Greene last night. Greene can certainly stick out the leg...but he can sure tuck in the head too, can't he? That wasn't turtling...that was armadillo-ing.

Sometimes the price for getting something back is higher than getting nothing back.
Seems that it would be a mistake to trade Sheldon just to get a body back. Are we cup-contending team with him? Probably not quite. Are we a cup-contending team without him? Definitely not. Last year I wouldhave said "trade the bum"; this year I think we need to keep him. Even if he walks next summer to sign elsewhere and we lose him "for nothing", we've had him for our run. And maybe BG can use the fact that Sheldon is [becoming] an important part of our "team" to his advantage.

He's too valuable as a leader and player to let go. I'd rather keep him for the duration of the season and risk losing him for nothing in the off season. I think we can keep both Sheldon and Andrei for about 9-10 mil which is pretty much what the Kaberle/McCabe duo gets. Both these defensemen are special guys and if we're to continue progressing towards being a cup contender, we can't take a step back in the D department.
We have to wonder on the other hand if the 3-3.5 we'll need to throw at Rivet is all that necessary. Rivet is a good team guy and all but he isn't all that special as a player and IMO isn't worth all that much more than he already gets. Bouillon can probably step in as the #4 guy and not look out of place (except to Skilly of course). If I was Gainey, I'd do all I can to keep the big 3 intact (Markov, Souray, Komi) and complete the D portfolio with cheaper guys who have different qualities (Streit, Bouillon, Dandy, Cote, etc...).

I agree with the three amigos being the ones to keep but I think the supporting cast has to get better. Rivet just doesn't bring anything on the ice but a little toughness. I'd be shopping him now.

Then you may be overjoyed to hear that it's quite possible that Frankie Bubble will require a second surgery—if so, he'll be done for the season. I miss the Mutt and Jeff combo of Souray-Bouillon.

Whatever happened to Cote? He was injured in September & I haven't heard much yet. The injury must have been more serious than first mentioned - it's been 2 months now.

I've been wanting to get rid of Souray for a long time. He makes terrible defensive mistakes. (not good for a veteran defenseman) He is slow. Very slow. He hits like a girl, all hands and no shoulder or hip. He's playing some of the best hockey of his life, his shot is hard and shows confidence when he uses it 20 times a game. I love to see the Hab's win more than I love to prove myself right or ship out Souray, so for now I say we ride the horse until he drops and "Go Souray GO!" Didn't think I'd be saying that? ?
