The very reliable Eklund has the HABS interested in Allison.
...doesn't strike me as a Gainey kinda guy...

Wasn't it also Eklund that suggested the Habs were thinking about Daigle?
'Nuff said.

I looked up his profile on www.hockeydb.com and he hasn't played anywhere all year. He is noted for being slow as it is and I can't see him being all that great of shape anyway. I imagine Eklund will eventually nail one rumour if he keeps posting his stuff. One out of 5,000 or so, isn't a very good average. As you said, Doc, not a Gainey kind of player. Cheers.

I probably thought that Eklund would pick that up as a catagory 3 rumour or something . . . anything from HabsRus is a beter source than he usually uses. My most humble apologies for even coming close to suggesting that you are anything as low as the unesteemed Ek.

Jason Allison would make a good powerplay specialist, but you don't want him 5 on 5. He can put up points but his plus/minus is atrocious. After he got injured, against the Habs, last year, the Leafs went on a winning streak without him. That punch, that busted his hand, cost him a small fortune in bonus money. Almost a million bucks.

Not sure this team needs a power play specialist.

This isn't the first time his name has been linked to the Habs (by Eklund). He's a bigger, slower, version of Ribeiro. I have no interest, and I doubt BG does either.

Still can't see Gainey chasin' Jason. Hey now, it's early days yet but the Habs have the second most efficient power play in the conference. And the fifth most effective penalty killing. [ sports.espn.go.com/nhl/standings ] Could be smoke and mirrors, or a new bag of tricks.
Allison is just too differently enabled at this point to be even a special teams player.

Make no mistake, Allison is a master at controlling the down low play near the net. It is very difficult to get the puck away from him, because of his reach. He is slow but very strong and hard to knock off of the puck. Place him with two speedy winges, and he could help a team. His passing ability is above average, but his slow skating make him a defensive liability. Something like Souray, but as a forward.

We alreadyhave that type of player ...and our version in not a defensive liability. But a few feel it is too Radek-al a solution. But I think Carbo is ready to Bonk the two comrades now.

A team that depends on it's speed and agility is going to sign the Jethro's of the NHL? Why?
Samsy and Kovalev are THEIR OWN worst enemies. Why do they need help in that department?

None of these players have anything in common with Allison. The three players you mention above are lazy Europeans, who only play for pay. The Habs won't move forward, until they get rid of at least two of them. Allison is no Bonk, I can't remember Bonk ever averaging a point a game, anywhere he has played. At least Allison, with his limitations, tries to win. The game he broke his hand in, at Montreal, was a fight because he cared about his team and team-mates. He didn't just float and hide like the malcontents that play on the Habs 2nd or 3rd line.

Jason Allison last year had 21 even strength points, and was -18. What good doe she doe Montreal's second line with those "lazy Europeans" as you called them. And Bonk isn't lazy .... Bonk fulfills everything you said Allison could do, and adds defense, something Allison has never learned to play and the reason he is currently out of the NHL. Game-set-match ;D

I've seen Bonk play in the playoffs, when he was with Ottawa. He is nowhere to be found, when the Leafs beat them year after year. On the minus 18, off Allison, you don't get no +/- for a powerplay point and that is where he excelled. You have to remember how brutal last years Leafs were. My searing memory of Kovalev is him quiting on a play in overtime when he was slashed. Samsonov speaks for himself.
If Allison had the supporting cast, I would welcome him back to the Leafs for his powerplay prowess. The Habs will regret it, if they keep those three floaters for the playoffs.

I like the thought of Allison's offensive contribution, but his defensive liability greatly outweighs it. Eklund was very reliable and right 13 times. Unfortunately he started 247 trade rumors and 13/247 isn't very good. Red light Racicot had a better percentage than that.

The Habs will regret it, if they keep those three floaters for the playoffs. To quote Jim Mora ...... " Playoffs, playoffs!! You want to talk about the playoffs"They are lies, damn lies, and then statistics .... the biggest lies there ever was is that Bonk is not a playoff performer. In his first five playoff serieses he was brutal, but so was the entire Senator club. But in his last four years he has 25 points in 43 games. Not exactly invisible. You subtract the two years he played in Montreal where he was a defensive specialist and he has 21 points in 30 games with Ottawa. So is the first young Bonk, or the last four years the real playoff Bonk? That's strange. My searing memory of that year was Alex Kovalev getting slashed (and it was Souray's mistake that let Murray score) and then carrying the team on his back to comeback from 3-1 to win the series 4-3. After that slash Kovalev got 2 goals, 2 assists and his defensive game went through the roof (he went +4) ...well look at that, his line did not get scored on the rest of the way. That soft Euro, shheshhh, what a bum. He certainly does. 0.7 ppg in his career. 0.66 ppg in the playoff in his career. 15 points in last years playoffs. That is some fancy talking. He has yet opened his mouth in Montreal, but maybe he'll speak in all sorts of tongues when it counts. And you have to remember how brutal Montreal is 5 on 5. The last thing we need is someone who is terrible 5 on 5. You just can't put him on the bench hoping for a powerplay (and Montreal is at the bottom in PP opportunities). Tim Kerr he isn't.

If you are calling Kovalev a playoff floater based on one play then you just aren't looking at the stats. The guys has played 100 playoff games, has a Stanley Cup ring & has scored 84 points. His PPG average is actually higher in the playoffs than the regular season.

I remember him with the Rangers , too. Diver, lazy. He has so much talent, but rarely shows it. For the talent, he isn't worth the contract. His pea size balls are a testament on the kind of player he is. Montreal cannot proceed past the first round with these three players on their roster.

I know he shows up for the playoffs, but I think he's overpaid for what he provides in the regular season. I said it before, he is what he is and I really should get over that. But, he's damned frustating at times too. To be fair though, it could be that he's not saying anything about his knee (someone already referred to that) and he looks like he's picked up a notch in recent games as well. If only his mates would do the same. Cheers.

Allison hasn't even been keeping himself in game shape. That's most likely the reason he hasn't received a contract.

His pea size balls are a testament on the kind of player he is. . I will have to disagree with that one. Lazy and uninvolved sometimes ? maybe; but "pea size balls" I don't think so. Kovalev is a BIG , Solid guy and certainly isn't scared to go along the boards. He is one tought sun of a gun to move away. He takes SOLID hit all the time and isn't scare of giving them when needed (IE remember Tucker ?). he is, to say the least, a mystery sometimes, but scared, I really, really doubt it. (Unless I don't understand what "pea size" balls means...) You can't just make your opinion on this guy from what you hear on TSN or Sportsnet or Fan590 (and certainly not Coach's Corner... ). You need to actually watch him play for more than a dozen game per season. ALL his Rangers teammates have good things to say about him.

I know he's frustrating to watch sometimes but a good look at his career numbers suggest Habs fans were expecting too much from someone that has a .8 PPG average over a long career. This rant isn't directed at you Dis but I have to say it. (you're a mod, you must be used to these )If people want to argue about Kovalev & his numbers that's fine. But when other posters make personal attacks on his character based only on their opinion that's quite another thing. IMO there is no place for that here & it reminds me too much of the stuff written about Ribiero.
