i know, I know but I must admit it makes for interesting reading. Pikanen's availability doesn't seem to be a secret anymore. I have seen it talked about for almost a week now.
However, on his site today, his sources seem to be claiming that Robyn Regehr is available. I find it hard to believe. I don't see much of Calgary but if he isn't #1, he is 1A. Anybody else seen this?

Regehr out of Calgary is something that seem to routinely come back...
...with Keenan in town you can expect things will move in Clagary. For better or worse.

Keenan likes to shakes things up and you wonder if sometimes he does it just for the sake of doing so. His treatment of Trevor Linden in Vancouver comes to mind. Regehr would fit in nicely.

Only 27, good size & 1 year left at 2 million.

Apparently Calgary is making a push for Ryan Smyth. If this happens, salary has to be freed up. Regehr, Kiprusoff and Iginla are all UFA's next year. Someone has to go.
For the life of me I can't understand how Smyth could go to arch-enemy #1, Calgary. There's something sacreligious about that, and I'm sure the Oilers fans would NEVER forgive him. Sorta like Damon leaving the Sox for the Yankees.

There is heresay he and his wife prefer the east. Huh? This is a joke, right? He's from Saskatchewan, has played his whole career in Calgary, and I don't think he's married. Marv

Marv ..he's not... is he... you know... playing for the same team as Wendell Clark ? Not that there is anything wrong with that...

Oh sorry I thought you meant Regehr and his wife preferred the east!
Can't see how Smyth and his wife would prefer the east. They're both from AB, and have spent all their time there. She even has business interests in Edmonton/Banff.

Flames couldn't let Iggy go without a fan mutiny. They are in negotiations (or soon will be).

Jussi Jokinen is the latest. He also says that "Erik Cole is on the Canucks radar". If Cole is available then I hope he is on Gainey's radar as well .... that way Gainey can walk away from an arbitrator's decision if he feels it is too high, or he can sign Ryder and start looking for trading partners. Be nice to have both though.

Jussi Jokinen is the latest. Wrong Jokinen. LOL I saw this a day or so ago but haven't seen it since. He has the Habs in the mix for players all over the map: Peca, Yashin, Danny Markov etc. If you throw enough names & situations around, you are bound to be right once in a while.

Be nice to have both though. If players with that much talent and desire are still out there, I certainly hope Gainey goes after them, to the point of losing some of our "potential". Watching improvement after improvement go to other teams is getting frustrating. Taking nothing away from Hamrlik and Smolinski, we need a guy like Cole. I've always hated him because he's been a Hab-killer. Rather he'd be a Hab.

Slip Higgins back to the second with Kovalev and Plekanec. Then Lats can play with Smolinski. Its all a pipe dream though ......

He always finds his way on the block somehow, doesn't he? He's all the Panthers have. If he leaves, they have no one else.

Well besides Forsberg and Selanne the left overs(UFA'S0 don't bring in much cache and even they couldd be considered dangerous pickups. There are serviceable players though that could help such as Cole or even Danny Markov. You have to assume Gainey is looking for a bargain having struck out on the major players. Even though many would see the failure to bring in a true number one centre in I think Bob is curious to see how well his kids will have improved before selling out the farm.I'm hoping were surprised otherwise it will be a long grueling season again. If Eklund adds the Habs intrest to say another dozen guys he actually maybe right. HFTO

Eklund's "confirmation" of the Schaefer/Donovan trade comes over an hour after the rest of the world (or at least Sens world) knowing about it.

Next name to be thrown out by Ek is Zherdev? Young with a high skill set but is he a young man's Kovalev? A real steal if you push the right buttons and that's a big if given last years indifferent play. It would be great if you could turn a kid like this around and I'm just wondering if the Habs given this off season would have the patience to take on this type of project. HFTO

I don't think he'd fit into Carboneau's style.Personally though i wouldn't mind trying him on a line with Higgin's and Koivu.Just turn them loose and tell them to concentrate on offence first.

OK -- in some convoluted way we are saying the same thing: we don't want Jussi, we do want Olli. I just didn't realize that Olli keeps going on the block -- I thought it was just rumours and blind hope. ;D

I don't think he'd fit into Carboneau's style.. Me neither. I havne't seen a lot of him but he sure carries quite a reputation of being a lazy and desinterested player. Zherdev - Yashin - Kovalev ? ...could be crazy enough to work....
