DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings once again dipped into the free-agent pool on Tuesday, signing forward Ray Whitney to a four-year, $13-million contract, Sportsnet has learned. Whitney, one of the few remaining bargains in the free-agent market, enjoyed his best year as a pro in Columbus last year - tallying 24 goals and 52 assists. The native of Fort Saskatchewan , Alberta should fill the scoring void left behind by centre Sergei Fedorov - who left for Anaheim one week ago.
