These are not from Garrioch!!
Everyone know about Kovy to Calgary, but they had a new one, Halak to the Pens for Colby Armstrong.
Not on your life. Halak is worth far more to us. A Armstrong type would be good to have, but not him, he is despised in the league and I don't want him on this team. Also Halak would come back to haunt us for sure. If there is a deal involving any of our players, do it with a team in the Western conference.

I am not sure why we need another third liner. Isn't an AHL full of them enough? Minimum is Christensen...or shove it.

I'd be willing to accept one of Crosby, Malkin, Staal or Whitney ;D.
Actually, I'd ask for Christensen and Letang. See how desperate they are.

So you want someone who will go to the net and get his nose dirty ... but you don't want someone who fits the mold? We have no one who will throw a check that strikes fear into opponents. We have Komi , who either doesn't want to or forgot how; we have Gui, who is afraid since his hurt someone; we have Bouillon, who will get himself out of position to attempt one .... Armstrong throws more bone crunching checks and gets dirtier than our whole team combined. Been a long time since we had a good agitator.... yes we have Lapierre, but he isn't doing much for the Habs in Hamilton. And he is a different sort of agitator.

Watching the Bulldogs' game today I was thinking about the way Lapierre seems to play. The thought that came to my mind was a poor man's Darcy Tucker. As much as I despise Tucker, at least he drops the gloves once in awhile. I have yet to see Lapierre drop them. He needs to start backing up his sandpaper style or he'll never stick in the NHL.

Assuming he gets out of our dressing room alive, no one would come to his defence when he used his 'gritty' style. No thanks. At least Claude Lemieux could score.

A good agitator in some regards can be alot better than an ubergoon ....

Unless he some how finds himself there again for a long stretch, I don't think we'll see him approach that production anytime soon. I don't disagree that someone of his style would be a good thing to have, but not him. I just don't think he'd be a good fit in the room.

The Sidney Crosby Factor there. I am not so certain about that. It is true that Crosby was in on the scoring play for 20 (half) of those 40 points. However, I don't think he played as much with Crosby as we might think. He started the year with Recchi, and I believe Palffy until he retired. Of Armstrong first 20 points, Crosby was only involved in 5 of them - 3 of those we PP points. This suggests to me that Armstrong was not on Crosby's line. It also suggests to me that he played his way onto the first line since 15 of his last 20 Crosby was in on .....

Might be right there Skilly. Still, he benefited from playing with three great offensive players. He's not the type to create. He can finish provided he's in the area of the crease - a place he definitely will go, which is good - and someone capable of passing can get it to him.
Regardless, given the history of the two clubs in recent seasons I don't think it would be a good fit.

Personally I think we have more than enough checkers or good but not great offensive players in the system (farm and team). I'd stay away from the Armstrong, Chistensen, Stoll, Horcoff, type of players that would not necessarely and clearly be an upgrade on the people they would replace. What we really need is at least one offensive powerhouse in the Kovalchuck, Hossa, Lecavalier, etc... mold. I think Gainey is at a point where he has the horses to risk a 2-3 very good players for one great one kind of deal.

One elite player might not put us over the hump, but it would certainly go a long way. Trouble is, there aren't too many teams looking to dump an elite player, and mgt can't seem to convince FAs that Montreal is a great place to play.

But this was about trading Halak ....and he isnt going to get us that type of player. Not even bundled up with another player. Jagr is the name that is out there now .... and Hossa since he is UFA. But we'd have to give up Koivu, or Higgins, ..... maybe Kovalev (which some might welcome) ... ... just not many teams looking for a young back-up (who may be able to start) and willing to give us their best player.

I'm luke warm on the idea of Jagr and Hossa. Jagr is temper mental, and seems to sulk when he doesn't have Nylander to play with. Hossa is a ghost come playoff time. He's a pay cheque collector.
Who would we have to give up to get that special player? I'm not sure Koivu would be on the list. If we were out of the playoffs and someone was looking for a rental, then yes Koivu would be a good addition, but I'm not sure he's who people would target if getting rid of an elite player. Perhaps if the selling team needs to have enough salary to remain above the cap floor. It will be our youth that any team looks at. Higgins and Komi will be on their radar. Perhaps the Kostitsyns. Definitely Fischer, McDonaugh, and Valentenko. Combine any number of them and some high draft pics.
As far as who we'd be willing to give up, it would depend on who/what we target. If we target an elite center, then giving up a playmaker like a Koivu or Plekanec makes sense. Ridding ourselves of the few people we have that will shoot first, and have a quality shot, doesn't make sense. If we target an elite goal scorer, then moving the likes of Higgins, Ryder, Kovalev, Kostitsyn, etc is more plausible.
Personally, I think we have enough good puck distributors. We have people that can pass. What we lack is that true weapon. Someone that can score from anywhere on the ice - whether he creates it himself or is fed the puck in a prime scoring area. Ryder is the closest we have.
Perhaps the first player to come to mind is Heatley. He's re-signed though, and Ottawa would never deal him to us.

Listening to team 990
PJ Stock says he knows from "reliable" sources that Halak is asking for a trade or else he is saying he could go back to mother Russia.
"Assuming" this is true, I hope we don't add his name to the list of players lost for nothing...

"Assuming" this is true, I hope we don't add his name to the list of players lost for nothing... The season is only ten games old. Still lots of time. Price gets his third start of the year tonight. If he firmly entrenches himself as the #2, #1a, or #1, Halak will either be dealt or called up. If Price does play well enough to take over for Huet, at least be on a level pegging, then it could be Huet that is dealt. Still lots to evaluate. Halak should be patient and so should we.

With the free agent age dropping, RFA offer sheets happening every years and the European leagues getting more competitive, this is the asset management era for GMs in the NHL. You can't hide NHL player in the AHL anymore. Can't blame Halak for wanting out if all management can do is let him rot in devellopment leagues.

Halak asking for a trade? Value is in the eye of the beholder. If we didn't have Price, Huet and even Danis, Halak would be worth a lot more to us. A Hyundai is not a valuable car, but if you are on the TCH between Gander and Port-aux-Basques in a snowstorm in winter, a Hyundai that is running well is worth more than a Lamborgini that is frozen. Halak is worth more to Toronto/Los Angeles/Washington than he is to us. Samsonov is worth more to Chicago than he is to us (barely).

Gainey has to make a move on these under utilized assets before we lose them for nothing. Perez last year was a prime example, Halak this year.

DREGER: TEAMS SNIFFING AROUND FOR TRADES?The U.S. Thanksgiving, roughly three weeks away, has traditionally marked the opening of the NHL trading season. By the third week of November, teams have had ample time to assess their strengths and weaknesses.
But that doesn't mean trade rumours haven't already begun.
Speculation persists that Anaheim Ducks' GM Brian Burke is getting ready to pull the trigger. The truth is, Burke pulled the trigger several times on Wednesday while enjoying his latest duck hunting adventure near Vancouver.
As for making a trade, Anaheim - like a lot of teams - is simply "kicking the tires" right now.
The Canucks had three representatives, including assistant general manager Steve Tambellini, at Tuesday's game between the Canadiens and Thrashers in Montreal, fueling speculation that something may happen with one of either teams.
But for the moment, nothing is close to happening.
Like Vancouver, the Dallas Stars' search is focused on a scoring forward. It's believed the Stars are prepared to move a defenceman as a part of any deal.
Maybe there's a fit with Edmonton?
Injuries to Sheldon Souray, Joni Pitkanen and Matt Greene, have prompted Oilers general manager Kevin Lowe to make calls.
Sources say the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets are also in the hunt for help on the blueline, while the Penguins are on the lookout for some speed up front.
Now there's no sense of urgency yet for any of these teams, but for some that day may be fast approaching

...and it was reported a few days ago that Forsberg's agent, Don Baizley, was in Montreal. Today it's been said he was at the Bell Centre yesterday before the game. He is also Koivu's agent. He is also Selanne's agent. Purely conjectural on my part, but, unless he popped in to say hello to Koivu, he was most likely there to meet with Gainey.
