A franchise center for an unproven prospect goalie, a UFA and a guy with bust written all over him. Tampa is getting nothing substencial and is sending one heck of a great player our way... Change Halak into Huet and Kosts into Plekanec and it would make more sense...

I like it ....though the Habs may still want to dump a tad more salary and they still may want keep A Kots to see if he ever gels with his Bros. Tampa also need d-men so maybe the Habs move Cube or Gorges oppossed to Kots that way the Bolts are taking a little more back. It would give us the uber goon we need and Richards although over paid would probably better compliment Kovalev.Trading both Ryder and Kots would leave us a little to thin at wing IMO HFTO

Brad Richards is one of my favorite players and I would love to have him here....
Andre Roy would play what? 6 minutes a game?
So basically we'd be trading Ryder - AK - and Halak for Richards.
I'd do it.
It would change the lines drastically.... I'm not sure what kind of positive it would be overall. but for Brad Richards I'd have a hard time declining any deal.

Substitute Grabovsky for AK and I'd do it - heck, even throw in Corey Locke along with Grabs (maybe St. Louis could teach Locke what it takes to survive in the NHL as a smurf).

In a heartbeat. Pull the trigger Bob if this has any truth to it.

Listening in your car and TYPING ? Hopefully he wasn't driving at the time. I'm not a fan of this trade. It would need to be modified constantly in order for the trigger to be pulled. We, essentially, are giving up too much for Richards. He is definitely not worth Ryder, Kostitsyn AND Halak. I agree with what was already mentioned: giving them Locke and/or Grabovski would be a better option instead of Kostitsyn.

You wouldn't do that? Ryder is a free agent, Halak is a throw in, and Kostitsyn is a stalled prospect. What part of that deal is too much? As it stands I'd still like to see more of Kostitsyn but I'd include him in that deal in a minute.
This smells of a pure rumour. Given Richards' value, his age, and locked in contract status, if I were Tampa I'd be looking at the likes of Plekanec, McDonagh, Fischer, etc. to round out a deal like this. The only way you deal a guy like Richards in his prime for less than equal talent is if you get at least 2 elite prospects.... assuming they feel the same way about them as we do.

I'd still rather see Ryder and Halak to San Jose for Marleau and then try and get a Roy type for a d-man. The time is right for a trade with S.J. Marleau is off to a poor start as is Ryder and they need a backup goalie whom can start in longer spells IMO the time is right and the $$ are better from our stand point. HFTO

Ryder + Cube + pick a 2nd tier prospect Richards + Roy As the deal stands as listed to start the thread, I think it's too much. Richards is closer to a 70 points a year man than 95. and he really is a PP specialist as in most of his seasons over 40% of his points are on the PP. He's no franchaise center. Already -11 this season. A lot of cash to pay...

I'd make the original deal in a heartbeat.
Richards would give us the kind of 1-2 punch at center we've been looking for for years.
I like Ryder, but he's a UFA to be and is fairly 1-dimensional.
Halak I really like, but goalie prospects aren't worth much.... we'll need to get ourselves a new backup though, since with Price as future starter, Huet will bolt come summertime.
Kosty Senior.... I like the parts, but the whole isn't turning into much of anything.... it's looking like he'll be more of a 15 goal guy who we're always unsatisfied with, and who'll have a single 25 or 30 goal career season, and not the perennial 25-35 goal. dynamic offensive force we thought we were drafting.
If Halak is worth Roy, and to me Kosty is worth the upgrade from Ryder to Richards, then this is a deal you gotta make if you can.

That's where I draw the line. Other than Richards is grosly overpaid, it's too good to be true. I'd like to see the two Kostitsyn bros play together, Locke seems stuck in AHLand, Grabs is too soon to say and Ryder has never done anything wrong. Richards however has done a lot of things right.

Naw, Locke is never going to play on the Habs and next year (?) he'll be gone for nothing. May as well parlay him into something if we can.

Like the deal on paper but with the salary we'd be taken on, for the kind of productivity we would get... the boo birds would be back in the Temple very quickly...
Richards is a 60-75 pts type of player, just like Koivu and yet, he's paid 3M more...
Again, I think we would be improving but that would be at the expense of some welcomed salary cap that will come handy when it's time to sign a free agent (yeah right!) or to ink Komo, Higgy and Pleks long term...

People tend to forget that we are living in a salary cap world.
Ryder+Kosty+Halak = 3.735M (Remember Halak is ZERO against our cap)
Richards+Roy = 8.3M
Thats a differnece of 4.565M and we have an estimated 4.1M in reserve... so NO I would not do it, because it can't be done.
Thats not to mention that our lines would still be weak. Who plays with Higgins and Koivu? And who plays with Richards and Kovalev? Pleky then moves down to the third line and plays with Smoke and Chips? Unless we all now think Kostopolous and Begin are ready for top 6 duty? Latendresse - who lately has been razed as "un-top 6 worthy" can only play on one line ....

I would do the original trade faster then Ben Johnson on steroids. When you trade, whoever gets the best player wins. In this case, Richards is far better then any player we are trading. As for back-up, we still have Denis and Huet hasn't gone anywhere. As for money, I don't care, I want GG to spend right up agaionst he cap and then some.
One thing for sure, there will be explicit instructions by Buttman to the referees to never call another penalty for us. Our power play will be downright frightening.

Higs-Pleks-Kovy.....elite speed (Pleks-Higs) and absolutely mad puck handling skills. Richards-Saku-Me or better yet, Streit.....anyone with Good hockey vision and decent shot would do wonders with these two there. We would have two killer first lines for the first time in a LOOOOONG time. Pleks-Richards-Streit

The more I think about this trade proposal and the more I believe it doesn't make sense in TB perspective... Putting myself on Jay Feaster's shoes, I have to replace Richards on the second line and Boyd is injured for longer thn anticipated... so I ask for:
Plekanec, Streit, Ryder and a pick for Richards and then some...
Would you still do that trade?

Yeah, I'd still do it. Richards is a playoff guy. And to rebut Doc (because I love doing it) we might be giving up a future all-star when Tampa finally plays him at right wing (Kostitsyn), a future all-star in goal, because Halak has improved everywhere he's gone, and a scoring right winger who you can count on for 30 goals a year.
Having said that, Richards is a proven commodity who I've wanted for years, and I'd give up a lot to get him. I'd throw Fischer in on that deal to add the D component.
Won't happen. For various reasons.

Thats a differnece of 4.565M and we have an estimated 4.1M in reserve... We had 4.1 in reserve at the start of the season... Since we still have that reserve with 14 games played, it now means we can take on a cap hit of about 4.8... As well, Richards has played 15 games so you shave about 1.3 mil in cap hit from his salary...
