Hey! I don't know if a thread of this sort is acceptable or not, but since the Habs are once again spinning their wheels after a strong start, I thought "let's play GM"!
My idea is as follows, feel free to slam my thoughts, make fun of me, call me an idiot, too little, too much, whatever!........
To MON: Hemsky, Stoll To EDM: A.Kostitsyn, Grabovski, Halak, White, Emelin
To MON: Carter To PHI: Ryder, Maxwell, 1st round pick
Plecanec ---------------------- Carter ---------------------- Kovalev Higgins ------------------------- Koivu ---------------------- Hemsky S.Kostitsyn --------------------- Stoll ----------------------- Lapierre Latendresse ------------------ Chipchura -------------------- Kostopoulos Begin, Smolinski
Markov ---------------------- Komisarek Hamrlik ---------------------- Brisebois Streit ----------------------- O'Byrne Boullion
Edmonton is pretty bad this season and won't be making the playoffs. Stoll is having a bad season and could use a change of scenery to get back on track. Hemsky is their best winger, but the team is bad so why not try and improve the future by moving him for some pretty impressive potential...... Philadelphia is going full throttle, but Carter isn't the player they hoped he was by now. Doesn't help that he plays behind Briere and Richards. Philadelphia could be a good "start over" for Ryder and if he flanked either Richards or Briere, his scoring prowess could come back!
So.........foolish fan trade ideas irritating?? Let me have it..........

Hi Bugsy,
Well, if Carter could be had he'd do well in Montreal. The skinny I heard is that he could be on his way out of Philadelphia just because of where he is on the depth chart. He'd be a top-2 centre in Montreal for sure.
However, I think the only way the Flyers would agree to a trade for Ryder would be if he's under an agreement that he be signed immediately upon arrival to Philadelphia.
And I'll be honest here, Bugsy. If Ryder is traded within our conference I can see him coming back to haunt us a la John LeClair. He probably wouldn't be as dominant as Big John, but he'd score the odd significant goal against us.
As for Carter, I really don't know what we have that the Flyers could use. Bouillon would be a perfect fit for the Flyers, I think anyway. He fits right into their style of play. What would that deal be?
To Montreal: Carter
To Philadelphia: Ryder/Bouillon/Maxwell
This might only be a starting point though. Carter would address our toughness issue but he certainly wouldn't be able to do it himself. If he were in the lineup we'd have to entertain Latendresse as his LW. The two youngsters would compliment each other; all sorts of confidence with these two feeding off each other.
Would love to get Randy Jones in Montreal as well but that would probably mean a blockbuster kind of deal.
Cheers.

Neither Carter nor Hemsky are going to be traded for what you are offering. Think about this, how much would we expect back for Markov? Or Komi?

If Bonk can come back and start scoring, I have no reason to believe that Ryder can't score next year too! Hopefully Ryder's scoring year starts January 1, 2008. For all the agony we are going thorugh, imagine what it is like in that dressing room, as both Higgins and Ryder ghave to look at the rest of the team at the end of every game having missed yet another open net to salt a game away.

I think overpay in the deal with Edmonton. Stoll is now on season #2 of serious struggles. Hemsky is a skill player, but even more a perimeter player than some of the ones we already have. What was the value of the contract he signed with Edmonton? How would it affect us? I like Hemsky, but I think we need to find some jam for our lineup.
I like the Carter deal as Dis describes it. I do like Pleks at center more than the wing though.
We'd never pull off both deals.

How about Plekanec for Carter?
Don't think the Flyers would do it, as it leaves them really small down the middle, but what do you guys think?

The guy I would like from Edmonton is Torres. I like Stoll as well and think he would fit in perfectly on our PP.
How about Ryder, Grabovsky, Halak and White (or a pick) for them ?

My Source...on the possible trade between SJ and.....Thursday @ 5:15 PM ET | Comments (281) Toronto or Montreal or Ottawa...
Just spoke to him and unfortunately he was called away. However prior to leaving he told me that at least one of the Canadian teams feels a bit "like they are being played."
I asked, "by San Jose?"
He responded, "No, San Jose is very straight ahead and honest. The ***** feels as though they are being played by quite a few other Western conference teams looking to 'feed on our young.'"
Which is a pretty good expression for what can happen when your team struggles. Other teams think you may make a desperate move...and they try and pluck a young future top line guy away to get you out of the slump...
The ***** feels as thought they are being played ....hmmm??? The Senators? Nope ....thats ******** The Habs? Nope .... thats Habs* ohhhhh ding ding ding ... the Leafs ... oh Eklund, how'd we ever guess.

TSN's Dreger reported that the Lightning and Stars are 'talking'. the thinking is St. Louis for Turco. Seems reasonable, but I'd hate it.
