brochuishockey.blogspot.com/This guy usually posts where he hears his rumors, so it's kind of a clearinghouse for rumors, rather than an inventor like eklund. "Radio station CJCR 1150 AM, based in Gatineau, Quebec, is reporting a rumour of the Montreal Canadiens sending forward Michael Ryder and a 4th round draft pick to the Phoenix Coyotes for Peter Mueller."I do that in a heartbeat. "The asking price for Hossa seems to be a young forward, a top to mid-level prospect and high draft picks. Some of the rumoured offers for Hossa are:
The Ottawa Senators have offered Antoine Vermette, Brian Lee, a 1st round draft pick and a 4th round pick in 2008.
The Montreal Canadiens have offered Michael Ryder, P.K. Subban, a 1st round draft pick and a 3rd round pick in 2008."Unless he re-signs with the Habs, I don't make that deal. There's a link to a Hossa story, but no mention of the Ottawa or Habs rumors in the story, so I don't know where they come from.

Mueller is supposed to be a strong prospect. He was good with the US junior team. For me to do that deal there'd have to be something coming back our way if Ryder re-signed with Phoenix.
If you look at the two Hossa rumours it would appear that more value is placed on Vermette and Lee. Vermette might be a better two-way player but imo he's not as dangerous offensively. Lee has been in their system a little while now. For me, he and Subban are a wash. So, it boils down to the picks. Considering our first rounder is liable to be higher in the picking order - unless we have a great playoff run - I'm not sure why we have to give the third. Why wouldn't a 4th do? Besides, this year is a really deep draft and I don't think we should have to pay through the nose with picks.
The Hossa deal is dangerous to be sure. Gainey has pulled off a risky deal in the past. He could have lost Kovalev to FA after giving a then highly touted prospect up for him. Instead he was able to convince Alex to stay. I'm sure the playoff success had something to do with it. It would have to work out that way again in order to get Hossa to stay. His acquisition would have to lead to a pretty good playoff run and some good vibes in order to have a chance at signing him.
Something about Hossa has always made me leery though. He's a great regular season player, but I just don't remember him being a big playoff presence. I looked up his playoff stats and he did have good stats in 2002 and 2003. Still, 35pts in 55 playoff games leaves a lot to be desired for a player who's going to be seeking the kind of contract he'll be after.
Would I pull the trigger on it? Yes. I think we have the prospect depth to give it a shot.

I wonder if Hossa would like to play for the team and the GM that gave up on his kid brother. Not saying they were wrong to do so, but I wonder if there is bad blood between the Habs and the Hossa family....
Just a though

I highly doubt that the Coyotes will trade Mueller. As a 19yr old, he's got 22 points this year (10 goals), and the western papers are always quoting Gretzky's love for the kid.

I was just looking at his stats. At 19, he is outscoring Ryder. Can't see why the Coyotes would trade him for an underachieving UFA to be.

Sign Ryder NOW...not doing so leaves him undervalued.

that is a joke, mueller is an elite prospect and probably the 2nd best player on the coyotes after doan, with huge upside and skill. ryder is a pending ufa, no way in a million years inifinity and beyond that deal happens.

Sign Ryder NOW...not doing so leaves him undervalued. Sign Ryder now! There are a lot of players that are unsigned for the future. I think Ryder's value has dropped from his consecutive great years. A long term deal would make sense. Tampa is stuck with Richards long term deal and his drop in production. That doesn't mean that he won't rebound. Samsonov is a never was, not a has been. GM's aren't putting Gainey on speed dial to get Ryder. Get er done!

In today's Calgary Herald, Tanguay talks about how playing in Mtl and dealing with the French media does not interest him. Darryl Sutter is also quoted saying Tanguay is an 'elite' player, and any trade would require a similar return. He also mentions that Tanguay has not waived his no-trade clause.

Interesting comments from a francophone player. I blame this speculation on TSN who are not usually in the business of rumors. They seem to be the ones that originated this by thinking out loud on their telecast. They should know better.

Now Eklund is saying Dallas and San Jose have interest in Ryder....
Ryder reuinted with Ribeiro. Wonder if Ribeiro has talked to the brass about his favourite right winger. I'm not sure Ryder would work in San Jose. They won't play him with Thornton, but as they say "a change is as good as a rest"
