I was listening to CKAC and according to Pierre Lebrun from LaPresse, it appears that Saku Koivu's name is circulating among GMs... Still according to him, Gainey is really looking to make an impact trade but everyone is asking too much for their players right now.

I wonder if BG put Koivu out there or if other GMs are asking. With cap issues affecting spending & the three point games creating parity, the trade market seems non-existant. Teams are hanging in the race longer & may not consider themselves sellers until the trade deadline, if then. I guess we will see this rumor pop up on Hockeybuzz soon. Don't mean to nitpick Doc but I think Lebrun is with Canadian Press, unless he's changed jobs.

LeBrun has like 6 jobs, among them CP. Not sure about LaPresse.

I can't see the Habs making an 'impact' trade. It would upset the apple cart too much. The team (when they're on their game) is pretty solid.

One rumour Koivu to Anahiem with Selanne returning to play with his buddy. The Habs only do this if they fall out of the race and to me would have to get Burkes first rounder that may possibly be a lottery pick. What players could the Ducks could give up without hurting their chances at a repeat?,if such a scenario came to pass? It wouldn't surprise me. I don't think Koivu and Carbo get along and the way Koivu's playing suggests he's waiting for something to happen.

HFTO They're deep enough that you could ask for the likes of Corey Perry or Andy McDonald. Saku is locked up for another season at a competitive salary. His ability to handle the harder travel schedule would be their only concern. I don't see a deal with Saku happening unless we dramatically fall out of the playoff race. Team chemistry seems pretty good overall. Morale seems good. The team hasn't hit the wall yet. The young players and vets seem to be mixing well. I think we're buyers this year.

HFTO Wonder how long it will take for this to show up on Eklund's site? This is the thing here. Removing the club's captain when the team is actually proving themselves would be disasterous. He might not be racking up the points but that doesn't mean he's not contributing. And if Gainey can pull one off without touching the existing lineup it would boost morale even higher in the ranks. He did it when he acquired Kovalev. Cheers.

They're deep enough that you could ask for the likes of . . . Andy McDonald. That would be difficult, as MacDonald was traded to St. Louis. But I'd take Perry . . . though I doubt if he'd be offered.

They lost one young player in Penner, I can't see them letting go of a stud like Perry for anyone especially Koivu whose best years (with all due respect) are behind him.

He might not be racking up the points but that doesn't mean he's not contributing. True, and just because he's the captain doesn't mean he IS contributing either. (Not saying he isn't here, Dis, just playing the role of your nemesis ) Carbo and Gainey are in the room listening to and watching the players interact with each other. If one is becoming a passenger, and I'm not saying he is, then he's ripe for a trade. Personally, I sense a bit of frustration with regard to Koivu in guys like Higgins and Latendresse. I think his vision is hampering his play somewhat and he struggles internally to keep up with the younger players on his line. But there's no denying it, Koivu is a leader with class, and grace worthy of mention alongside Beliveau. But, I have to ask myself, IF he's not leading his linemates, then, who is he leading? If and when he does leave he'll surely be missed by all, but I wonder how much it'll affect he success of this team on he ice. On the other side of the issue, can Gainey afford to keep Saku and acquire a superstar we feel we need? With the raises some of these guys have coming to them over the next two years it'll get harder to keep this team together as it is. Do I believe Koivu is being shopped around? I would expect it of the GM and wouldn't be surprised to see him traded, of his own volition that is. Not surprised but sad. He has and does repesent this franchise very well.

no way do we get perry for koivu, unless we throw in another prospect. it wouldn't bother me if saku was traded, and i don't think we'd see a meltdown with this team. but i would mind if we didn't get full value back with the eye on the immediate future.
kovalev could handle wearing the C, his maturity this season combined with skill and work ethic is second to none on this team. add to that the russians that are here and coming.
but i dont' believe that bob would trade saku.

If there is anyway you get get Vinny for a package with say Koivu,Halak a d-man prospect and a pick,I wonder if Tampa would consider it? They do need help on D and in net and with their self imposed salary cap. A deal like that may just get you Richards but I still like dreaming of Vinny centering the Kosts brothers one day. HFTO

One could say Gainey has worked at shifting the leadership or power balance in the dressing room in the last years.
First he got rid of Ribeiro and Dagenais, then of Théo when he started to slump. Then he traded Rivet even though we were in the playoff hunt, and last summer signed Hamrlik instead of Souray. Rivet and Souray were identified as being the leaders in the dressing room along with Koivu. Therefore I think it's not Koivu's team as much as it used to be, especially with the emergence of Komisarek and the good mood of Mr. Kovalev.
So maybe if there is a bidding war, trading Koivu could pay off for us, but even then I doubt gainey would trade him.

Even when the rest of the team takes a break, he manages to put on a show. That post-seaon talks and his own motivation are paying off. We are for real !
