marek malik. he played for the canucks, is one of the best stay at home defencemen i've seen in this league. he's huge, has a long reach, and is always near the top in plus/minus year after year. if we could waive dandy, and move streit back to forward, i think this guy could be a perfect fit on this team.
what price would we have to pay? i'd deal ryder for him in a heartbeat.
his past 4 full seasons plus/minus: +32, +25, +38, +23 +118 over 4 seasons +130 career

He's had an awful season so far, but I still wonder if he'd be cheap enough to realistically acquire. I don't really want to pay anything for him, but I'm not against acquiring him.
I wonder if we could flip someone like Bouillon for him.

I don't know what he makes first of all but I wouldn't trade Ryder to the Rags.I'm not keen on dealing with conference foes unless we totally rip them off.As a depth D he's better than Brisebois but if he can't crack a woeful Rangers D what's left and whats the cap hit now and going forward.IMO unless the Habs sign a frontline d-man I stick with what we got.Gorges is proving to be a pretty darn good 5 or 6 and he's only 22.I think another top d-man and goal scorer is what we need, not sur if it's Malik but you never know. i don't know whats happenned to the guy, because when he was in vancouver he was the best in our end, even better than ohlund positionally and with his 10 foot long stick. maybe the new nhl is blowing him by speed wise. as far as gorges goes, i know a good friend of his and we were thinking he could become the #4 guy in montreal, obvious what the top 3 are, but after that it was murky, i'm glad he went from pressbox to playing all the time. the kid gives it all he's got every shift, is a leader, remember hewore the C for kelowna when they won the mem cup, and i spent a night partying with him, my buddy and one other hockey player from the ahl (name escapes me) 2 summers ago and he didn't have that arrogance being back in kelowna like you'd expect. he was actually a pretty good guy. but the tail that was coming up to our table allllll night long was something to behold.

I think Malik's Saperlipopettety season can be partially attributed to the strained relationship he apparently has with Renney. A new environment might be all he needs. He's pretty mobile for his size, and you can't dispute the stats from the last few years. Besides, he'd be our shoot out secret weapon. What would I give up? Dandeneault.

If he were playing at that level presently then perhaps. He's not. Malik isn't filling a dire need. So, no need to pay much if we don't have to.

Could very well be the D depth we're looking for to go on the big push. He could turn out to be either another Niinimaa......or back into the silk Vancouver purse. Depending upon who we'd have to give up, the risk could be worth it. Who would sit? Bouillon?
