We just moved to page 3 NWT reports that Waddell was at the Marlies/Dogs game today where Grabovski scored 2 goals. He was interviewed but declined to comment that there was any pending deal. MG must think otherwise, the tear he's been on.

Is Detroit out of the running for Hossa? This note is from Spector's.
DETROIT FREE PRESS: Helene St. James reports Red Wings GM Ken Holland is busy negotiating contracts with Darren McCarty and Daniel Cleary. He's also been in talks with several teams but suggested the asking prices for the players he's interested in could be too expensive. MLIVE.com's Ansar Khan yesterday reports the Wings biggest need right now is scoring, particularly because many of their young forwards are struggling offensively in recent weeks.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Holland is known for being a major player at the trade deadline but it remains to be seen what he'll do this year, as he might not be as willing to part with promising assets as he was a year ago.
If Holland is busy with those two players, and unwilling to part with what it's going to take, he may be out of the running.

I'd hate to lose out on a deal of this magnitude to a division rival like Ottawa, but I don't want to over pay without a contract.

Even given his post-season stigma, I still think Hossa would be an improvement on what we have already. If Gainey is still actively pursuing him then I think the offer for a long-term contract is already on the table. But, if he is to be had, I'm hoping he doesn't turn into this year's poster boy for unrestricted free agency. Cheers.

Was just listening to Sportsnet a few minutes ago. Bill Waters basically said that Montreal was offering:
* Gabrovski,
* Chipchura, (and possibly)
* A conditional pick depending on how far the Habs went in the playoffs (speculation only)
Ottawa was offering up:
* Nick Foligno, and
* Jim O'Brien (I'm not sure on this one though. He said it rather quickly)

Montreal's offer is two players with NHL experience so it looks better than Ottawa. That being said, how the heck does Watters know what each team is offering? We all know that getting info from the Bell Centre is like stealing gold from Fort Knox. Is it being leaked by an Atlanta source? I'm quite sceptical.

Hossa was interviewed today on HockeyCentral and he said he'd love to play in Montreal, that he'd have no objections to being trading to Montreal ..... but he felt that because of his previous time in Ottawa that going there would be a "perfect fit".
Pandering to up the ante me thinks .... but finally an elite player that comes out and says we are on his list!!!

He was part of a trade several years ago with the Thrashers that sent heatley to Ottawa. There were other players involved but Hossa/Heatley was the centre piece.

Waddell might just seal his own fate if both Heately and Hossa end up in Ottawa and all he has to show for it would be a couple of prospects. Cheers.

Bob MacKenzie saying that Montreal will be either dealing Higgins or a bunch of picks and prospects .....
... Waddell says he wants NHL ready players.

slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Ottawa/2008/02/26/4877292-sun.htmlIt's from Garrioch, so take it with a few grains of salt. This statement stuck out the most The Bruins were also hot after Hossa, but sources say GM Peter Chiarelli pulled out of the running when he learned that Hossa has no intentions of signing a contract extension and will be purely a rental.

Pandering to up the ante me thinks .... but finally an elite player that comes out and says we are on his list!!! Humm... In the clips I saw, Hossa said that it'd be interesting to play in Canada/Montreal... no love involved or implied... "I'm prepared for both options - either I'll go or I'll stay," Hossa told a crowd of media people Monday after skating with the Thrashers in their practice. "It's interesting that we're playing in Montreal, but we'll see what happens.
"It's a hockey city. I've played in Canada and I know how the people are crazy about hockey, so it's an interesting place to play. But right now that's all I can say."As for trading Higgins for 2/3 monthes of Hossa... I'll pass thank you very much. We'd be on the losing side of that trade for years, unless we'd win the cup this year... I don't like the odds.

Team 990 reports: Atlanta goes for morning skate....Hossa told to stay at the hotel.
He will be moved, no doubt.....but where?
It sounds as awful lot like Richards will be Dallas bound.
Then a caller with a souce in Atlanta....says his buddy's wife is a realtor in Atlanta. Here's his scoop: Hossa's house is listed. He's looking at houses in Montreal....and he'll sign here for 6 years.
Grain of salt.....but it makes for interesting listening.

Was thinking of moving this thread to the main board if and when this deal goes down, though I can't guarantee I'll be quick enough ... work getting in the darn way. What do you think of that? Hope the hype is worth it anyway. Cheers.

He was saying Grabovski, Ryder & Lapierre was the offer.

Pang on TSN made an interesting point:
He suggested that the Habs could be obtaining Hedberg in a deal with the Thrashers.
Maybe as a swap with Halak and / or part of a bigger deal involving Hossa.

It was Maguire. "Moose" is someone I hadn't thought of. Streaky, but has had playoff success, and is apparently a great team guy.
