A done deal now. The Flyers win tonight and pick up Prospal in the process. He might be the winger Briere needs to pick up his game. www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=230584&hubname=Flyers acquire Prospal from Lightning

Vinny Prospal will be returning to the team that drafted him.
The Lightning have shipped forward Vaclav Prospal to the Philadelphia Flyers for defensemen Alexandre Picard and a second or third round draft pick in 2009.
Prospal butted heads with coach John Tortorella over playing time this year. In an interview following his two game against the Canadiens, Prospal all but called out the coach. Prompting Tortorella to reply,
"I'm not here to be the happy man and make everybody happy. I'm here to make calls as far as the game is concerned."
Picard, a native of Gatineau, Quebec, has played in 53 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL, where he is second in scoring.
"Alexander Picard is a young prospect with good size and excellent hockey sense who has played in the NHL," said Feaster. "We believe he has a significant amount of upside in his future. In moving Vaclav Prospal we wanted to add to our organizational depth, and by acquiring both a young defenseman and a future draft pick we were able to achieve that goal."
The 22-year-old was drafted by Philadelphia in the third-round, 85th overall, at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
The 33-year old Prospal has 29 goals and 57 points in 62 games for the Lightning this year.

As for Hossa, I think remember hearing one of the anchors on TV say that Gainey has made it clear he won't be touching his lineup to make the trade. And just before that another panelist said that the two prospects going Atlanta's way would be Chipchura and Grabovski. They would be in addition to a conditional draft pick. Cheers.

Just heard Bob MacKenzie say that there is speculation that Montreal has two offers for Hossa .... one includes Higgins, the other is a bunch of prospects and picks. Everyone says that Gainey won't sacrifice the future. A bunch of prospects and picks is looking like he may put a dent in that future. Others say Bob wont touch the line-up, but Higgins is apart of the line-up .... so both lines of thought can't be right.

If the deal does go down and Hggins is involved here's hoping there's no love lost where the "Hossa clan" and the Montreal Canadiens organzation is concerned; be a terrible shame to lose Higgins for merely a rental in a season where EVEN WITH a Hossa in the lineup playoff success is gonna be a loooooooong-shot. If I'm Gainey; I'm gonna make damned certain Hossa shows interest in staying on for at least 3 more seasons otherwise, "no go".

Hossa camp has made it clear it wants 8-9 million plus to resign, no if's or but's. Secondly, we lose Higs, we lose Komi. So for one rental in a year that we are a damn long shot to win the cup, we are going to lose two corner stones? Are you kidding me?

Secondly, we lose Higs, we lose Komi. Well, if THIS is true then Komi is softer than even I imagined. Sorry, but I just can't subscribe to this idea, especially in "today's NHL".

He was in Montreal over the weekend 7 stated that he "spoke to a lot of people". When the subject of Higgins came up he was told emphatically that Higgins isn't moving. He didn't say who he spoke with but he seemed quite sure.

Komisarek will resign with us long term with or without Higgins. He'll be the next Captain. He'll be our General on the blue line. This is professional sports, spare parts get moved.
Just to compare, you didn't see Saku run away when we traded his best friend Ribiero away for a finnish defenseman did we?

If Mike can't handle the idea of a friend being traded then he's not long for the uniform himself. It's not like they played together in college. I'm sure we all had friends growing up that we dreamed about playing with in the NHL. It's come true for these guys. That's great. But, if neither can manage to play for a team without the other then their careers are in trouble. Whether we trade from our current lineup, or the AHL, or picks, or a combination of all three, our future will be affected by the acquisition of a Hossa. The negative impact will be the loss of some youth - we have youth in Montreal, youth on the farm, youth in junior, and youth we don't own the rights to yet. The positive impact would be the addition of an extremely dynamic player who instantly becomes the best player on the team (on paper). In my opinion, it seems quite hard to imagine Gainey being able to add a player without removing at least one from the current roster. If we add a Hossa without including a forward in return, what do we do with the extra forward? Does Lats get demoted to Hamilton? Time will tell.

The word around the net (Yahoo news)is that Hossa has already has been traded to Montreal, and its Ryder and prospects going the other way. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The word also is that Ottawa is offering Vermette ... who would you rather Ryder or Vermette? Unless Ottawa switched gears and think that Federov is a better rental ....

Vermette is the name most bandied about here. Possibly one of the young guys as well (I don't think they want to give Foligno) -- maybe Lee -- cupboard is getting pretty bare in Ottawa.

Federov is a different type of rental. I don't think you give up much for him & you let him go at the end of the season. Hossa, OTOH, is someone you want to keep around & will give up more for him.
