To Bure or not to Bure?

The opportunity to get a prolific goal scorer like Pavel Bure in your line-up doesn’t present itself everyday. I don’t think there’s a team in the league right now that’s not at least scanning their roster seeing if they have anything of interest for the Cats. The Habs could get Bure away from Florida; I have no doubt there. They need help and stability up front and young promising talent or picks. Bure could be had for Petrov, Zednik, and either Hainsey or Komisarek, no question in my mind.
So how would Bure work out in Montreal? He wouldn’t, that’s how. Pavel Bure has a magnetic personality; things just seem to gravitate to him…like Anna Kournikova for instance. On the ice he’s no different. He needs a lot of attention on the ice from his teammates in order to be productive. This alone can make or break his stay with a team.
Bure needs to be on a team that is very confident in what they’re doing. First off it has to be a veteran team with guys that can knock Bure back into orbit if need be. When Bure is on a young team (Florida) he stalls the development of the young talent on the team. How are players like Huselius and Novoseltsev supposed to progress and grow when everyone else on the team is looking to get the puck to Pavel?
Montreal’s line-up is unstable right now. We’ve got people coming and going, no one really knowing if they’ll be there much longer. This uncertainty would be chaotic with Bure thrown into the mix. We’re much more suited for a player like Teemu Selanne. A strong, silent leader that leads by example and is very unselfish. Both are elite snipers in the league, but the effects they would have on a team are severely different.
So, Bure to the Habs? Nope, I’ll pass. We’ll just continue on our track of building from within, from the back end out.
No need to hitch a ride on this Rocket, I’m afraid it would be a lot less spectacular than the last one.
