How can you not put a 3rd forward out in the overtime? We now have 1 friggin bonus point out of 13. As I've mentioned before, losing in overtime doesn't mean anything. Out of 13 overtime games we are now 1 win 3 losses 9 ties. If we had won just 1 more we would be alone in 7th right now. I'm really pissed off at this team and its management. I think I just watched them play for the tie against a team with only 2 NHL calibre defensemen. The zamboni won't have to do Toronto's end. We lose the season series to Toronto 7 points to 3 without a win against them. That's reason enough to fire Therrien immediately. I've just about had enough of Savard to. He better make an impact deal before the deadline and I don't mean bring in another former Senator. We may be tied for 8th in the east right now but we're also 1 point out of 20th overall and just 7 points out of 24th. I keep hearing about how improved we are but I'm beginning to wonder if this team is headed for another top 10 pick.

We don't have a competative 4-on-4 club, Bob. I was just about to throw the remote at the television (again)! I can't believe how many times the Leafs were a step ahead of us; and all night!
I read elsewhere that Sundin is getting away with murder these days. Well, I saw him cross-check Perreault several times while Yanic was down and out of the play. As I read, the ref wasn't 6 feet away from him.
But that's not why we didn't take the extra point, Bob. You know as well as I do that the Leafs looked pretty organized tonight. At least more organized than the Habs. Cheers.

I hear what you're saying, dis. The Leafs did appear to be prepared tonight as I figured they would after their poor showing against the Wings and the puck seemed to really be bouncing bad for us. The 4 on 4 argument though I don't totally agree with. I watch Carolina play 3 forwards almost every OT they have sure they pay for it as they have 5 OTL but I think they have 3 or 4 wins. This staff is always reactive instead of proactive. They always worry about the other team first as opposed to making the other team worry about you. Why not throw out Perreault, Zednick, Berezin and Brisebois and see what happens. If we get possession of the puck I like our odds of getting a scoring chance. Sure they would be awful in their own end but every risk has it's reward and vice-versa, right?
Like I said though I've finally had enough of this team showing no fire. As I see it there are 2 explanations: 1. We aren't as talented as our point total dictates and we need all the breaks just to be competitive. If this is the case than it's time Savard gets taken to task for his additions.
or what I believe to be the case...
2. We have the talent and skill to be anywhere from 8th to 12th in the league but just don't show up some (most) nights. I can watch just about any two teams on a nightly basis and expect to see a better effort than what we give in our games.
Bah, don't mind me, I'm just frustrated and I have a really bad feeling that come April we'll be 10th or 11th in the East instead of fighting for 6th or 7th.

Do we have the talent on the club? Do we have the coach that can exploit that talent?
I honestly think we're more talented that we were last year but Savard still has much work to do. It's nice to say we need this player for that, yadda, yadda, yadda, but first you need another club to deal with and second, that club has to be willing to give up the players you need. Until both criteria are met all trades possibilities will remain speculative. Nothing more.
WRT coaching, I think we can probably use that talent in a better way. How, I'm only an amateur, Bob. But, I feel we should be doing a bit better with the players we have in the lineup. We've beat this one to death I think, but I said it late last season and stand by it now, Therrien may be well liked by his players, but I'm not totally convinced he's the man for the job. He hasn't proven IMHO, that he's any better than Alain Vigneault.
There may be several schools of thought why Savard didn't go after Robinson. It would have been professionally disasterous giving Therrien a 1-year extension only to have to pay him off in order to let him go. Maybe he did enquire as to Larry's availability I don't know, but it would have been a major PR coup had he brought him on board even as an assistant.
The bottom line is, we still have a long way to go. Last night's effort against a depleted Leafs team may suggest that. Cheers.

I agree with Bob here.MT's OT strategy is pathetic.IF it wasn't for Luongo letting in a softie on that Dykhuis shot in November, we don't even have an OT win this year.
What frustrated me last night in OT was:Young, fresh legs who may still have something left in the tank in the 2nd of back-to-back games barely played(Markov and Zednik) or didn't play(Bulis) and veterans like Gilmour and Juneau seemed to be out there 90% of the time.Look, they have been very good for us, but what is the chance of them having something left after back-to-back games?

I agree that in OT you have to let it all hang out. One might then ask what do we have to hang out? The one thing we have on most teams is speed. Where we're lacking is size and toughness. It seems to me that equates well to 4 on 4 hockey. Open it up in OT. I'll take my chances that Theo will come up with a game saver over Schwab if the leafs do get a break. Well it may be foolish to risk the point by pulling your goalie we certainly should be taking all sorts of chances in the last 2 mins of OT.MT doesn't get it.
