What exactly is with him? He doesn't seem to be getting quality chances. He's carrying the puck a fair bit but nothing's happening. Is it because there's no traffic in front of the net? Is it his linemates? Ice time? Powerplay time? Is he just in a slump? If he were getting chances and not burying them I wouldn't be so concerned, but he doesn't seem to be effective at all. Is there a doctor in the house? We got this guy to help soften the blow of losing Audette and Savage, and the only way he can do that is by giving us production. We're not getting it. I don't get it.

I think he does. Berezin isn't a very complicated player. Small, soft, fast, scoring touch, likes to shoot A LOT, produces without needing top linemates. That's the basic scouting report on him. Problem is, he seems to have lost that scoring touch, his shots simply aren't on net anymore. My attention during the game always focuses on guys I think might do something, ie- when Van Allen takes a routine shot, I yawn, when Zednik takes one, I make sure I look at it since he has a decent chance of scoring. So I kept a solid eye on Berezin..... and he's just missinng the net all the time. I don't think Berezin ever made a living off top-level plays, he just takes a lot of shots and has a nice aim, and scores. But he seems to have lost that aim...
And when Berezin isn't scoring, he's useless.
I really wonder if he'll even get a qualifying offer this summer...

They have to make him a Q-offer. If they don't they lose him for nothing.
The whole thing is nauseating, when you think about it. We have a gaggle of small, soft forwards including Berezin, Audette, Perreault, Ribeiero. Koivu's not soft, but he's a bit brittle. Petrov's neither. But four is two too many as far as I'm concerned. They need to add Holik for sure, and maybe Selanne (what's $15,000,000.00 anyway?):
Zednik/Holik/Audette Hossa/Koivu/Selanne Bulis/Juneau/Petrov Kilger/Perreault/Asham
Roll four lines and be happy.

Well, if Berezin will keep on sucking, maybe it's better to lose him for nothing than to pay him big bucks to suck. Use the cash on a UFA or use it to build up some cash reserves, and give the roster slot to a kid, or get another, cheaper, reclamation project if the kids aren't ready.
Houle was smart enough to let Lachance go when he wasn't working out, meant we'd wasted a 3d rounder, but better to waste a 3d rounder than to waste a 3d rounder and a few million bucks. I wonder if Savard will be able to swallow his pride.... he hasn't been able to with Traverse...
Holik is a pipe dream, everyone will want him this summer, he'll be this summer's Lapointe.
Selanne, if he wants to play with Saku, might be a distant possibility... but not more than that.

IMO,Berezin is alot like Savage when Brian isn't scoring.Totally invisible.Berezin's knee injury seems to have reduced his speed, unfortunately. By the way, here are Brian's stats with the Coyotes, let me just say,he has been playing with Briere and Doan,so there is no reason for such production(or lack there of): sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/statistics?statsId=09936 points in 13 games...who said he would be a star in the Western conference?

Problem is,when is the date to offer a Q-offer? is it before or after UFA market opens? we would look kinda of foolish if we didn't give Berezin a Q-offer and not be able to land a big name UFA. I agree, better to have him suck somewhere else and not here for 2+ million.

I agree, better to have him suck somewhere else and not here for 2+ million. July 1st - same day as all contracts end, and same day that players become UFAs. So if you don't offer him a deal, it's with the idea that you can go without him or any UFa, since you can't be sure of getting one. Looks like the Berezin deal will come back in our face, it's basically just as bad as being stuck with Savage, only we lost a 3d round pick ,too.

Yeah, the 3rd round pick is the killer.I mean a 3rd rounder ALONE got the Bruins a decent forward like McInnis. We gave one up for nothing it seems!

Just a third rounder? I wish!
We lose a fourth rounder also if Savage doesn't resign in Phoenix. Which he won't.
Plus we lost the second rounder that Savage would fetch as a compensation pick.
Brutal deal by Savard! But I mentioned this on another board when the trade was made and got torched by saying such a thing.

Well, with the way Savage has produced,I wouldn't be surprised if he signs with the Yotes.Because no one will want him.He is like Jonas Hoglund IMO. But giving those picks is just a killer.Savage for Berezin, one for one would have been an OK deal, but with all the picks...makes me sick
