... "Habs' backup Jeff Hackett could be had for some stick tape and a bag of pucks, but he is buried deep in Montreal and would not be much of an upgrade over Corey Schwab who will be asked to fill CuJo's big shoes". Hackett not much of an upgrade over Schwab in what world do they live in ? People have a short memory. Hackett is far from being finished and can still be a solid no 1. It's not his fault if Theodore emerged as a superstar since November. Put Theodore in a leafs jersey and Joseph would have been losing sleep over his no 1 status. You just can't sit a goalie with a save % of 0.925.

That's an unfortunate situation Yeti, Hack has little value because of his high salary, injuries and bad play this year. On the other hand, we all know this guy, when on his game, can steal wins like the best of them. We can't win. Spending 4mil to Keep Hack on the bench as a backup to one of the best goalie in the league isn't good business and if someone picks him up, there is no doubt they'll have the best of the deal. I keep my fingers crossed Savard can minimize the damage. Can you just immagine Hackett taking the Leafs to the cup after they steal him from us for a bag of pucks... ooooohh the pain...

The next few weeks are going to be quite enjoyable for Hab fans who dislike the Leafs (I'd hate to have to count them). I'd even consider trading Hackett to Toronto, but they're going to have to pay big dearly if they want him. From the Leafs standpoint, it may not actually be a bad idea. Cujo has them by the throat as far as his new contract goes...and a healthy (pray, pray) Jeff Hackett, gives them an option. For my money, he's far and away the best goalie available out there. Forget Weekes or any other of those 2nd string journeymen you can get for a 6th round pick. All Hackett needs is 3 games to get his timing back and he's in a class just below Theo or Cujo. In any case, it should be muchos fun watching the Leafs rely on Corey Schwab (raucous laughter erupts). A playoff spot is suddenly in danger. The key to watch is how the Leafs scoring deteriorates. When you have a Cujo, you're much more aggressive offensively and you take more risks than if you have Corey Squab in goal (oops, misspelled). That will affect your goal production. Yes, interesting times ahead. Isn't it fun to watch the other guys lose key players for a change?

In the mean time, in Quebec, Garon stopped 47 of 49 shots for a 4-2 Citadelles win... Chouinard scored twice. It's time for Garon to graduate... but I would prefer not to help the leafs short term...

Pretty much sums it up. Problem is, what to ask for in a trade.... if you ask for too little you look bad if he works out, if you ask for too much, then TOR goes for a Weekes/Belfour/Fiset/other cheap goalies. And we're stuck with Hack who can't be happy, whatever he's saying right now...

We may have to throw in a defenseman also

Holy cow,is it just me or does Garon face a ton of shots with the Cits? I agree,if he isn't ready with the number of shots he is getting,he will never be ready.

We may have to throw in a defenseman also We would have to give up more than Hackett to get a number 1 pick in a deal.Because Fiset or Shields or Vernon will not cost a number 1 pick. How about Hackett and a d-man(Rivet or Souray, etc) for a number 1 pick? I hope AS doesn't pick up garbage like Cory Cross,Jonas Hoglund or Gary Valk.

At this point, the Leafs may be looking for two goalies, one to play now and one to take over from Joseph if he elects to sign a contract with another NHL franchise in July.

I think they need another d-man to replace Yushkevich and another winger to replace Mogilny before acquiring a 2nd goalie.Anyways, the Leafs game tonight is on the NEW VR and with a Starchoice dish, you can do what I will do and watch Corey Schwab face the Devils who will certainly be fired up. Also, the Joe Thornton-less Bruins face the Sabres.Big Joe was suspended for 3 games today for what he did last night.I guess this means he won't play against us next week? ;D That game is on WSBK.
