Alright... question time. Real simple (because I'm bored). Who do you think will be the five that serve Team Canada in a shootout (if there's one) and why? Here's my choices:
(1)Al MacInnis - Slow as molasses, and not a great stickhandler, but how many goalies actually want to see him come in and be allowed to wind up and launch a rocket. Tell him to aim high and see if we can't hit the goalie somewhere where he'll be even more shaken up. Even if he doesn't score intimidation is a big factor here.
(2)Paul Karyia - The anti-thesis of Al. Has more moves than almost anyone on the team and goes hunting for that back hand winner. Probably would've made the difference in Nagano.
(3)Owen Nolan - Back to a guy who's more than likely going to shoot than stickhandle. Has a laser for a shot and good footspeed. Very, very dangerous on a break.
(4)Joe Sakic - Can burn you with a hard shot or deke the pants off you. Coming into the home stretch I can think of only one guy I'd like to have more than Joe on our breakaway squad and that man is....
(5)Mario Lemieux - The most dangerous man in the league when he has the puck - and has proved it since his return. He made Hasek look like a pathetic mortal at the all star game, and did it again in the game against the Czechs. The anchor, the savior, the man who can not fail.
Honerable Mentions:
Steve Yzerman: Handles the puck like a dream, and would take MacInnis's slot if Al didn't have a rocket powered slap shot. Works hard and can be very dangerous
Brendan Shannahan: Has a hard shot and soft hands. Can score from anywhere and can be deadly in close.
Curtis Joseph: Yes - Cujo... he played as a Right Wing for some time in the minors and was actually quite good from what I understand. The goalie would be laughing himself so silly that Joseph would easily slide it in. (-:
