The TSN experts have us finishing 5th in our group (whatever that's called) and out of the playoffs. The Leafs ahead of us. Surprise. Our guys better be tigers this year, for that slight alone. I missed the show so can you tell me on what basis they have Toronto above us? it's Toronto. that's enough for them.

I was hoping on something like, Montreal is lacking size in top 6....or Toronto should make it with the upgrade in goal. I just don't see the offence on Toronto besides Kessel and Lupul. I wish we had JVR on our wing though.

I'm not sure the panel members themselves all felt that way (Bob McKenzie, Mike Johnson and Aaron Ward), but the TSN "consensus" (probably made up of a dozen other employees living in Toronto) came up with that vote. When you look at the depth and talent at the individual positions, it's very hard to determine that the Leafs are better. They are worse in many areas, especially defense. The panel felt strongly, though, that Price's play this season (unsurprisingly as we feel the same way) will determine their fate.

Sportsnet has Toronto 4th and Montreal 5th, with both teams getting a wild card. The key, is and always will be, Carey Price. If he wins the Vezina, we make the playoffs

The panel felt strongly, though, that Price's play this season (unsurprisingly as we feel the same way) will determine their fate. I look at Toronto's line-up and there is no question; they are markedly better than Montreal. They have a top 10 scorer. We do not. Their second line features a top 20 youngster; ours does not. We all rave about our third line, but the Leafs have arguably the best third line in hockey ... Raymond-Bolland-Clarkson. Our fourth line has yet to win a wrestling match, let alone a fight, against theirs. We still dont have an answer for Orr-McClement-McLaren. But I'm willing to see if Parros can inspire his linemates to grow a pair. On defense, we have PK. Heads above anyone on both teams. We hold the edge when we have a healthy Emelin, a confident Tinordi, and a producing Markov. But they have their own highly touted defensemen in Rielly and Gardiner. The rest Franson, Gunnarson, Phaneuf, and Fraser ... I'd rather them in my starting lineup than Diaz, Bouillon, and Drewiskie. In my opinion, they have more depth, even if only because they have very similar defenseman and they slide into their line-up easily. In goal? Who knows what we will get with Price .... when on, we have the edge ... when he is cold, there is no worse in the league.

I don't see either teams being that much ahead of the other. In truth there are a bunch of teams that will battle all season long for the last 4 spots. Bergevin rolled the dice for another season with a very small top 9 (Desharnais, Pleks, Gionta, Brière, Gallagher) in arguably to toughest most physical division. The second half of the season will be very tough...

I'll go with 99 pts. Strong start, slow finish.

Ok, so we won't have a 110 pts season. we will still be better than the projections at seasons beginnings.

I, of course, am an optimist. Not quite in the mold of Bones, but an optimist none-the-less. I think the Sens and the Wings are over-rated, the Leafs are a joke [not that I would give them any credit to begin with]. the Florida teams are rebuilding [again! though I wonder if Thomas can help the Panthers], and the Sabres are the Sabres. Which means 2nd place in our division. 48-29-5 for 101 points [even I can't believe that number but I'm sticking to it]. so close . . .

Ha! I said the Leafs, Sabres, and Ottawa were all tougher and would finish higher....and that we'd be fighting for a wild card. Before that record-setting comeback vs. Ottawa (which really was the impetus for our solid stretch run) we could've very easily ended up in wild-card territory, or even missing out. (That game was also the beginning of the end for the Sens....heh!)
I also thought there'd be a ? on Price, considering the previous playoffs.
Oh well...I hope I'm as wrong about my 1st Round prediction as I was for the regular season pt. total/result.

I think we will finish around 100-102 range, good enough for top 3. Not bad!!

Price met and exceeded expectations Patches was Patches,DD came around after the 20 game mark Pleks was solid Gallagher was Gallagher and Markov was probably better than expected after that was there a standout player based on MT's handling???
PK flat lined Briere was mis cast Eller struggled Galchenyuk too although he rose above his low minutes but struggled with injuries.
All in all you have to be happy but surprised they did this well given another year where their youth wasn't served...so kdos to MT and his old school tactics so far us non believers have been wrong but it's yet to be proven we are not wrong. MT is paid for results so far he has earned that and for that I am happy hope his method is long lasting and this club improves going forward and doesn't regress mid stream. As important as it is to show improvement this year looks like the madness we have been questioning will be better answered next year...so for now guess we enjoy the ride and hope MT's way is the right way.
