Habs get Tom Gilbert

That means no Dan Boyle. Depending on the cash, it means Gilbert and a 2nd for Gorges.

too bad the 2nd rounder wasn't in 2015. That'd be a real good one.

The price for Gilbert is fine. Not sure which Gilbert we'll end up with. He's a bit Brisebois like sometimes. His best game is pretty good, but has quite a few wtf moments.

I think this Habs group will be the best he's played with. He's only been a plus player once, playing on a lot of below average team. Still, his minus was never horrible given that fact. He's capable of some points, largely assists, which suggests he's a decent passer. McKenzie saying Sekac signs with Montreal.

I'm a HUGE proponent of having LD/RD balance.
So on the face of it, we swap Gorges for Gilbert and the 2nd from Buffalo, but Gilbert shoots right, he's a $1 million cheaper on the cap and he's signed for 2 years. I don't know Gilbert's game very well, but I like the move for flexibility alone and clearing a spot on the left side for either Beaulieu or Tinordi.
I assume this means Weaver is out.

I think Gilbert slides into the top 4, so there's still a chance for Weaver. You could give the $1.1 million difference to Weaver, and that was his salary last year.

Re Gorges, there's been chatter about Gionta going 'home' to Buffalo. I have to wonder if that isn't going to be the case, and wasn't a determining factor in where Gorges decided to go.

Wow, so that's
Markov/Subban Emelin/Gilbert Beaulieu/Weaver/Tinordi
I still think the door is open to package one of Beaulieu or Tinordi along with Plekanec or Eller to acquire another scorer, but I don't see that happening today.
