Now also on TSN.
Now, if they MUST choose a replacement by limiting themselves by eliminating non French speaking coaches, here's hoping they choose a young open minded coach in the "Q" or the AHL.

Congrats to Gerard!
I think we just might miss him.
Sure would like to ask him about working with Therrien.

I asked Stubbs who he thought might have the inside track. No response yet. It will be interesting to see who. They've got lots of time, so there's no need to rush. Could it be one of the development guys already with the team? Could it be a Q league coach? Could it be Lefebvre? Could it be a Therrien buddy? Tough to say.
Muller was fired in Carolina. Was good with the PP. Would there be a fit there?

Congrats GG. Good for Gallant, bad for us. I hope they grab Ducharme but I wont hold my breathe. They'll probably promote Lefebvre.

Muller, being anglo, wouldn't necessarily be seen as a threat. It boils down to MT finding a guy that fits within his program and he gets along with.

I wonder if Boucher would accept an Assistant role as a way of making it back into the NHL. I hope so...

Gallant was responsible for the special teams was he not? We'll need someone who has a track record of success in that area.

There must be a reason that Boucher gets no mention for any coaching job that has come up in the past couple of years. At the time he was hired in Tampa he was supposed to be the golden boy for a new wave of coaches coming into the league.

Something I hadn't considered yesterday is that Gallant coached Huberdeau in St John. I wonder how much that played into Tallon's decision.

At the time he was hired in Tampa he was supposed to be the golden boy for a new wave of coaches coming into the league. Why didn't Ted Nolan get a job for so long? Too strong a personality? There's certainly nothing wrong with his coaching. As Golden Boy Jon Cooper showed us yet again, it's hard to be a good coach when you don't have goaltending. There are lots of reasons for various coaches not getting re-hired right away. Gerard Gallant is another fine example. Sometimes, just the right opportunity has to come along. There ain't no way Habs are hiring Boucher right now. I'd hire him because he's proven to be a good coach in the past and his specialty is the PP. But.....no way Boucher is on Therrien's staff. Now.....if Lefebvre gets promoted from Hamilton , then perhaps Boucher would be a fit in Hamilton again, at least until his next coaching opportunity in the NHL comes up.

I wish Gallant luck. I suspect the Habs will miss him more than they think.
I wouldn't be surprised if Therrien chooses one of his old buddies as an assistant. Andre Savard anyone?

Gallant had the kind of character Bergevin keeps saying he wants in Montreal and I don't you don't just replace guys like him ... good luck to him ... he was a big piece of the equation in Montreal (I thought, anyway) ...
Cheers.
