Likely to slot into PAP's roster spot? PAP's out with an upper body injury.

I'd rather see Hudon.

I think it may be a matter of two reasons. 1. Hudon is a center. 2. While there is a roster spot, it will be on the lower lines. Thomas would appear to be more apt for the role.

You know, it used to be a pretty simple thing to figure out who was going to get called up; it was usually the guy with the best stats, or barring that the guy playing the best (though they were usually the same guy). But with this bunch... who knows?
But I'm beginning to believe that's not necessarily a bad thing. We've got a small army of development aides checking in on these kids on a almost daily basis so it seems like Bergevin has a pretty good handle on the psychological aspect of things. I don't know how well Thomas has been playing, but maybe they sensed that he was starting to lag in the enthusiasm department, seeing Andrighetto sticking with the club for so long and Hudon lighting it up in the AHL? Maybe they feel he needs a little promotion to get the competitive fires going again?
Or maybe they're showcasing him. Whatever.

The guy can skate like the wind. Maybe it's a case of wanting to see how he adapts to the NHL and determine if he really has a future. It often happens that players, for whatever reason, play better when they hit the NHL than they do in the minors and vice versa.
Also, being a developmental league, maybe the Habs' brass sees Hudon as still needing work on certain things before he's exposed to the bigs whereas Thomas doesn't have anything more to learn. Now it's time for him to show whether what he's learned in the minors can translate to an NHL career.

Could be any number of things ... but he'll have a decent paycheque for a change ...
Cheers.

I guess PAP is still out. I don't see him at this point knocking either Bournival or Andrighetto out of their spots, but who knows. He was one of the last cuts in camp and had a very good pre season, so the brass may just want to see how he does in real action for a game or two.
Hudon will get his turn, but this is only his first year pro and the Habs have to make a decision about whether to qualify/re-sign Thomas in the offseason.

If Thomas follows the form exhibited by other call-ups, once free from the shackles of Lefebvrian voodoo coaching, he'll light it up, even in a better league. PaP hasn't been physical so the difference in size won't hurt us. IN fact, I'd guess Thomas is more competitive. Now, if he was only just as good in the shootouts.
