A bit of a frustrating game to watch for fans of either team. I don't think Tampa or the Habs played especially well and I felt if someone had a quality chance on either goalie, they would score. To the Habs credit, Stamkos and Callaghan were not major factors. As I expected, the Habs pp was putrid. Petry was the best defenseman on either team once again.
I'm not sure what's up with Markov. He's a very smart player and being a step behind is not usually an big issue since he reads the play so well, imo. It's not the case this postseason. I think MT should have rested him for sure.

Tone on this board would be much different if Chick had scored late in the third or Weiser scored in OT moments before TB did. We played well.
If I'm TB I'm a little worried that my big scoring machine ain't scoring.
If I'm MT I'm going with the same game plan and hoping Bishop can't keep it up. But if we haven't scored a few goals by the midway mark or have a lead, I'm putting the GEG line back together - should have been done long ago. It is amazing that, with all our scoring woes this past year, a trio which was one of our best offensive trios the last few years has never been given a chance to play together this year. Law of averages would suggest that if 3 players are on your top 9 sooner or later they would form a combination. So MT must be stubbornly avoiding it for some reason. If we lose this series in 4 or 5, have little scoring, and he hasn't tried that combo it will speak volumes of his incompetence.

One of the great advantages of analytics is that it can tell you which trio works best together. Has that been used?

Analytics will probably also tell you that the lines a certain way may be, for example, +1, +1, 0, and 0. Mix them up and you could end up with +2, -1, -1, and 0. The +2 would be nice, but the net benefit is less. Pretty sure that's the way our staff looks at it.

Analytics Schmanalytics. There is only one way to find out if there is chemistry between certain players - PLAY THEM TOGETHER. It's not as if it is a bizarre combination. The three have been used together in the past and worked well. The thought process has always been that BGal always gets his line mates going. Chucky needs to get going. Put them with Eller who is playing some great hockey right now! Bingo - we got Cup 25!
I'm guessing that any analytics assessment of how we match up against TB this season would conclude TB wins, Habs lose. So do something, for MT, that is out of the box.
