It was reported earlier in the week that Dustin was taking a leave of absence, but no reason was given. Now it appears that with two seasons left on his 5 year deal he's contemplating retiring.

Interesting. It is hard to imagine a guy walking away from $15 million USD. Does he have chronic knee or hip issues or something?

Winnipeg's defense has already been decimated in the offseason. Their two young forward stars are still unsigned RFAs. Talk about a team in a self-destruct mode right now. It is not like they are in an easy division either.
Yikes.

If he's been smart with his money and no longer enjoys playing, more power to him... I wish I could retire right now, but I've got a ways to go.

Priorities.
IF Buff invested wisely, the amount of money he made is enough to buy high quality real estate and retire with 7 figure income.
If jets, yachts and 30,000 ft2 mansions are not in his retirement future, a 7 figure retirement income is kinda real nice.
So if that is what he wants, then he should do it.
On the other hand.....all kinds of red flags go up when a vet "is considering his future".....and players are unsigned.

We've been there ... implode mode ... the fans in Winnipeg don't deserve the drama that's being forced on them ... come to think of it we've been there too, no ... let's talk about Ottawa at a different time ... Cheers.

Well, this comment stirred some thought ... wouldn't be the first time a veteran didn't like the direction his team was going ... Dustin Byfuglien is probably one of the most well-respected players around the league ... he says what he wants and then backs it up on the ice ... or in the dressing room (ask Evander Kane) ... management is handling it right ... give him the time and space he needs to sort it out ... he's earned that kind of respect ... Cheers.
