According to RDS:

Donald Audette placed on waivers
RDS learned that the Canadiens put forward Donald Audette on waivers Thursday afternoon.
The other 29 NHL teams have 48hrs to claim the unhappy player. If not claimed there's a good chance he'll end up in the AHL.
Audette announced his discontent publicly Wednesday afternoon when he learned that Claude Julien didn't plan to dress him for the game against Tampa Bay.
Barring a trade, Audette wanted more ice time. He said his lack of production was a consequence of how he's been used all season. In 36 games this season Audette has three goals and nine assists.
He would even be prepared to play a few weeks in the AHL, as did Mariusz Czerkawski.

this is great news. finally something will happen to lance this boil. I'n betting no one picks him up.
It does beg one question though. When was the last time a team in the same season had two players being paid $3 million respectively placed on waivers AND no team picked either player up. I don't recall it ever happenning. That being the case GG may ask some legitimate questions of AS as its his bacon.

This guy's stock just plummeted this year... terrible... I remember cheering him on as a Laval Titan, the guy was incredible in juniors, even had some big years in the NHL. But a sniper with Audette's talent only netting 3 goals? That's just unacceptable, no matter how hard you're working. Hope the guy can bounce back, was always a fan of his. At least not much was given in acquiring him.

Now we all know why he was picked up for next to nothing! Still ties up limited funds available to land better players. Nobody's gonna claim him and he'll sit in the minors collecting huge paychecks for playing with kids. I have my fingers crossed hoping that Savard and Julien know what they're doing. So far, it all looks pretty suspect.

Go away Donald. Go.
If any GM picks him up then he should have his head examined.

man, i really hope someone scoops donnie. he did some good things for us last post season i hope he can stay in the nhl for his sake, although he is a whiny bas... this would be a great salary dump for us, the second in as many days! maybe with audette and hackett and out of the way we can pick up a real defense man! that's unlikely as hack was our only good trade bait, but would give us some serious dough to work with on the ufa market this summer.

Good riddence to bad rubbish!!! I sincerely hope that some GM picks him up though I highly doubt it. At any rate, this can only help the team in the dressing room and on the ice. At least AS has made one good move this week. cheers,

Il pourrait être cédé à Hamilton demain, mais en attendant, Claude Julien l'a rencontré à l'entraînement et l'a encouragé.<br> -------- A few teams are interested but Habs don't want to pay a part of his salary Man..AS...if they only want us to pay 25% of less of his salary...deal him!

It's a foregone conclusion that the waivers on Audette will remain unclaimed. Sending him down to Hamilton can only be a very temporary solution as I can't see uncle George paying Donald $3.3 million for the next 2.5 years to play in the minors.
If AS wants to buy him out, as per the last CBA accepted by the NHLPA, we're talking two thirds of the remaining salary on his contract or approximately $5 million. That's also out of the question.
I think only two other solutions remain for André Savard, a) play him and hope he will find back his scoring touch or b) trade him and pay half of salary; 25% of his salary won't do the trick.
Audette's salary was not established by André Savard but by the Stars after a fantastic season with the Thrashers. Savard thought he had concluded a fantastic deal for the Habs when he got Audette for Rucinsky but he failed to recognise that Rosie was in the last year of his contract and that in accepting Audette he was also accepting a 4 year $12 million contract. He even repeated the same mistake a year later when he dealt Asham for Czerkawski.
