i came to realize our club has been one of the better ones in the shooting percentage category for some time. i'm curious what everyone thinks will occur with the seemingly recent outbreak of shooting the team has been doing. obviously the percentage will drop but it sure seems to me we may see the boys hitting the mesh alot more in the near future. it will definately be nice to win games as a team instead of on the shoulder's of Theo and hack. Tonight was an all around team effort with support from everywhere. Does anyone else figure we will be a much more offensively productive club under Julien or am i just reading to much into the last couple of nights versus not so defensively responsible clubs

We will better offensively for a few reasons
-The transition game is better...puck gets out of the zone faster=more offence
-Julien is going to go with 4 lines...with scoring on every line...no more defensive minded 3rd line that couldn't score in a soccer goal..
-It looks like some of the players who were doing nothing before...Petrov..Chow...are starting to produce
-Hainsey on the PP should eventually net a few more goals than Traverse on the PP..
BTW not so good defensive clubs? TO is an excellent defensive club and the Panthers had Luongo who was hotter than a firecracker in goal tonight..

Another reason ... and one I believe is particularly important is the D helping out the forwards in the offensive zone. Markov can now unleash his talent all over the league. You'll see a lot of production for the D for the next couple of games ...

BTW ... I didn't see any 2 against 1 ... Even though we were losing in the third and trying to put up some offense. Gotta like it !

Can't understand why french media(I'm french too but you sure guessed it already) are all over MT as if he was the next scotty bowman. Probably cuz he was an easy job for reporters I dunno ... someone has got an explanation why they love MT so much ?

I think it's either
- They are idiots and really thought MT was a good coach
- Years of watching mediocre hockey has hurt their brain ;D
- MT is a good guy and they loved his honesty

I thought at the beginning of the year they would score at least 3 goals per game and I think that with a new coach they might actually start to do that. Better line combos, players no longer afraid to make mistakes, Hossa and Chow producing, D pinching in, less ice time for Juneau and Dacks, and players being rewarded for production will make a big difference. Maybe now they will finally be as good as so many of us expected them to be at the start of the season, perhaps even better

Before Julien took over we averaged 24 shots on goal per game game while surrendering an average of 34 per. That yields an average game score of 2.62 to 3.02.
For argument's sake let's say that we managed to reverse those numbers. Say we averaged 34 shots on goal and surrendered only 24 per game. At the rate that our offense scores (on 10.9% of their shots) and that our goalies stop the puck (at a 91.1% success rate), our average game score would have been 3.71 to 2.14.
Let's assume more modest shot totals, but keep the same scoring and save percentages. Our offense's efficiency requires 28 shots to score 3 goals, and if we limit opposition shots to 22 per game our goaltending would tield only 2 goals. A ratio of this order does not seem to be unrealistically attainable on a regular basis. At least it works out fine in my laboratory.

Probably cuz he was an easy job for reporters I dunno ... someone has got an explanation why they love MT so much ? Could it be that "some" for the reporters think of him as a good old boy who has done well? One of their own? From a bodygaurd to a coach to the fabled Hab's. I can certainly understand this and I have nothing against it but is sure makes "some" reporters blind to reality.

Yes and wouldn't ya know the Ottawa Senators numbers are 3.36 to 2.19. Well, there it is. And where are they now? 24 shots for, 34 against per game under Therrien. 37 for and 30 against per game in two games under Julien. Swinging from a difference of -14 to +7, a net gain of +21, has us swinging from the ceiling fan here in the laboratory. To be sure, a statistically insignificant sample from the new guy as yet, but we like the indications. Even if the numbers were to settle into the more prosaic, but quite excellent, range of 28 shots for and 22 against per game, that would still mean a net gain of +16. That type of over all performance can't help but put the team into the black in the standing.

More numerology:
Of the Habs 19 losses this year, 12 have been by a margin of 1 goal.

Another reason ... and one I believe is particularly important is the D helping out the forwards in the offensive zone. Markov can now unleash his talent all over the league. You'll see a lot of production for the D for the next couple of games ... There are 2 major differences between CJ and MT in this case: 1. The D is pinching on a regular basis 2. The forwards are coming back to cover the point. Something that they didn't do too often under MT. This aggressive forecheck in causing turnovers in the offensive zone and creating more opportunities to shoot and score. Under MT, the forwards didn't cover for the D and many 2 on 1's where created. They did take risks before under MT but now the risk is lower because of good coverage.
