I'd have to say Y-E-S(emporarily). I, too, will have to wait and see at least 10 games before I can REALLY say YES though. One thing that really bothers me is WHY DID Andre wait so long ? Lets hope its NOT TOO LATE to turn this season around.

i thought CJ was pretty good too, considering AS and previous MT... if we're going with nicknames now rather than abbreviations, than savard should be called savvy ;D
either was Jules, or CJ... whatever you like to call him will be A+ compared to MT.

I really have a good feeling about this guy. Like I had a good feeling about Markov and the Zednik trade.
Something tells me he won't follow the road MT's and AV followed.

AS is decent, but I think he's done precious little to deserve the nickname "Savvy" !!!!

Julien is an improvement over Therrien (who isn't) and my answer to:
yes or no?
is an interim yes.

There are a lot of similarities.
Both successfully coached the Montreal AHL affiliate, both have French surnames.
There are some differences.
Julien knows a little about hockey, Therrien has some NHL coaching experience (if you can call what he did coaching).

He seems to exude confidence, and from I have heard, appears to combine a gentle appraoch, while still holding players accountable. This combines with his obvious technical style should bode well for our future. I like him

AS is decent, but I think he's done precious little to deserve the nickname "Savvy" !!!! There are few teams and few GMs out there, very few in fact, who haven't made decisions which in retrospect were just as bad or worse. Dallas signed Donald Audette, Phoenix paid a tidy sum for Tony Amonte, NY shelled out a fortune for Holik and Kasparitis, Boston gave Lapointe a pile of cash, Los Angeles has Steve Heinze in the minors making a tidy sum, Chicago has Theo Fleury's migraine headaches, Toronto has Lumme, Hoglund and Reichel, New Jersey gave up Jason Arnott and now has Niewenduyk, Calgary is paying Roman Turek almost as much as we're paying Theodore, Milbury's got to pay Chris Osgood, Phoenix (again) went and paid Brian Savage's asking price, Chicago (again) took on Chris Simon's payments, Pittsburgh's paying Alex Daigle $700,000 to play in the minors, etc, etc, etc. Not all the teams currently have a mistake on their hands, but all have or will have at least one at some point. Some simply haven't had the dough to (mis)spend, some are in situations where people will be patient, others are not, but this stuff happens when people feel the very real business pressures of running the on-ice aspect of a sizeable business operation. It just happens. It's not pretty when it happens, but the real test is adapting on the fly and working through what may be a three or four year process. If Savard isn't "savvy" he's not the only one. But he's smart, imo, and he'll learn fast enough. Assuming he's learning from these painful lessons, when he puts some "savvy" together with his level of knowledge, he'll be fine.

I also had a really good feeling about Markov and after seeing the news conference today and reading so much about Jules, I have a similar feeling about him. Actually that's not quite true. I didn't just have a good feeling about Markov, I was SURE after seeing him play a few times. Jules I don't feel sure about but I have a good feeling; he reminds me a little of Scotty Bowman.

Daspin, I need to caution you about some crazy man wondering through this maze of posts. Some say he is unbalanced, some say he is crazy but all say he is a menace to human sanity. Avaid him if you can. They call hm HA, short for the frightening hahahaha that you sometimes hear deep in the night. Welcome to our board Daspin.

And yes, he seems to have a grasp of tactics and appropriate motivation. How all this works with millionaires, we'll see. Btw, nice to see your avatar image in full bloom.

As a former tough D-man, the first thing I hope to notice is that the D start getting tougher, and not let forwards roam free, piling up the shots on goal.
I'm certainly not approaching CJ as some type of saviour, but man, I feel like a kid on his birthday today!!!

More thoughts:
-Savard and Therrien simply weren't compatible as Head coach/GM. Therrien is a guy who is all about fights/grit/toughness...while Savard is more about skill, finesse, skating kind of guy. This is probably why Berezin was a flop and why Czerk and Audette were becoming flops. By all accounts, Julien is a guy who can manage skill and knows how to use them. Hopefully this gets our 7 million dollars combined investments going. It just doesn't make sense that a Chow who has scored everywhere comes here and stops scoring. Ditto for Berezin and probably the same for Audette(hand injury has affected him). Skill players have to play on the powerplay and with offensive players to suceed.
-In Hamilton, Julien had the ''3 offensive lines/1 grinding 4th line'' model going. No checking line per se. Alot like what AS wanted for this year eh? Wouldn't be surprised to see that checking line dismantled sooner rather than later(maybe not this year).
-All of the players who have played for Julien this year(Hainsey, Ribs, Hossa, Czerkawski) and in the past(Theodore) have all praised him to no end before and after the hiring. This is good because this will give Julien some credibility instantly.
-Hate to bring this up...but Julien's command of english is much better than Therrien's. Who knows, maybe some of the players who did not respect Therrien did it because of his trouble in speaking english?
