"Sometimes he gets really emotional, but he's a really good coach and he does the best for the team," said Ryder. "He gets the best out of every player. He makes everyone work their hardest." Ryder says the Olympiques always take Julien's emotional temperature before a practice, just to make sure it's OK to joke around. "I do have a hot point and I think my players can attest to that," said Julien. "They've seen me blow a fuse a couple of times." - www.slam.ca/2000WJHC/dec22_jul.htmlhow about emotional and an X's and O's kind of guy

A Julien is what you get on a shoestring.
I don't think Savard jumped, but rather that he was pushed off the wall. However that point is moot since the change is a fait accompli. Obviously we will soon enough discover if we have a Mr Potatohead replacing an MThead.
Can Claude convince a sour cream and onion dressing (room) to stick to his (meal) plan? We know that young sprouts become full-fledged firm spuds under his tutelege, but how is he with mature spuds on the verge of going to seed?
Will he require that some old growth be plowed under? Will he insist on a diet of more crisp new potatoes? Will he himself be scalloped by season's end?
Does André Savard know the difference between a Yukon Gold and pig feed? We'll soon enough see how good the mash is.

how about emotional and an X's and O's kind of guy That would be perfect. Ugly as it may sound, Julien may well be a Therrien with a clue.

A Julien is what you get on a shoestring. Way cheaper then that other guy. A I don't think Savard jumped, but rather that he was pushed off the wall. However that point is moot since the change is a fait accompli. Obviously we will soon enough discover if we have a Mr Potatohead replacing an MThead. Decisions can be made much easier and fasster when you get home and not when you are tralloping around in a fishing town. Mr. Potatoeheads are much easier to peel then coconuts with experience. A Can Claude convince a sour cream and onion dressing (room) to stick to his (meal) plan? We know that young sprouts become full-fledged firm spuds under his tutelege, but how is he with mature spuds on the verge of going to seed? Some of the sour cream has gone a "bit" bad and will be tossed away if it spoils completely. It seems to harm "sore backs" the most. He will use the seed he had plowed even though they are seedlings. A Will he require that some old growth be plowed under? Will he insist on a diet of more crisp new potatoes? Will he himself be scalloped by season's end? You always cut the trees that don't produce. Sometimes you try to revive them a nd give them a chance but eventually, you have to see that they will remain bare on your soil and they will need cutting. A Does André Savard know the difference between a Yukon Gold and pig feed? We'll soon enough see how good the mash is he is going to finsd out that the man yodeling from the midwest Alps is not calling his praises for his failure. Indeed, an eye has been cast on the proceeding and now is focusing to slit eye look.

Who is really to say if AS acted too fast in hiring Julien? What if AS has been keeping an eye on him for years now and has liked what he's seen? How can we be so sure Julien wasn't going to be hired by another team before the end of the season?
I trust that AS really thinks Julien can do the job, and he didn't want to risk him being hired by another franchise.
Whether he can get the job done is another question, I for one think he will.
AS isn't free and clear and will have to live or die with his decisions. I won't defend everything he has done, but I think this was a good move. Time will tell if Julien supporters are right.

Lucky thing Claude's not Irish. Hopefully he won't need "the luck of the..." to survive his promotion.

Hey, just because Savard chose Julien, doesn't mean that he didn't look elsewhere, doesn't mean that he took the first available candidate, and doesn't mean that he rushed into the decision. Maybe he interviewed Hartley, Robinson, Bowman, Julien, and six others. Maybe he decided before Christmas that he needed a new coach, and has been doing his research since then. Maybe he even had a sly talk with Jacques Martin and the Senators to find out if he might be available this summer. All we know is that Savard chose Julien. We know absolutely nothing about the process that led to this decision, so let's not make assumptions.

BTW,
On the team 990...one of hosts keeps saying that Jacques Martin was THAT close to becoming our coach. Apparently Habs and Sens were negotiating for the compensation rights but the whole thing just fell through...maybe the Sens decided to keep Martin? I don't know because the radio host(who is very credible) has never been able to complete the story from some reason(like a commercial break coming up.....)
This was last summer...probably right after the Carolina series. So there goes the ''AS did not look for any suitable replacement(s)'' theory........
